When I was younger,I had my first love.
His eyes were blue like diamonds.
Alas,he didn’t exist in this realm.

He couldn’t hold me.
He couldn’t help me out or scold me.
And he wasn’t entirely human.

That is a story for another day.
The thought of him would comfort me.
Now somebody else does.

Years later,I found somebody else that’s real.
And he cleaned up the path of broken glass.
It’s funny how things unexpectedly change.

And our first loves are often strange.
Alas,we were kids,we only wanted the best.
So attached to characters in our heads.

Years later,I had found somebody real.
Somebody I can hear,somebody I can feel.
And we put together like puzzle pieces.

I couldn’t believe it,finally I could see it.
And feel how a deeper human connection feels.
He made me a promise.

He was the hatter,I was his Alice.
And his presence is empty of malice.
For a while,I believed I couldn’t make it.

But I have to ask,I can’t just take it.
And first loves are sometimes strange.
As lives go by,we change and rearrange.

And different people come by.
Some stay,then say goodbye.
And first loves make us fly.

Years later, somebody held me as I cry.
And I won’t deny it,it felt soothing.
To finally have genuine, warm hands around me.

I remember the state I was in when he found me.
They say first loves aren’t worth it.
They say the second try is best.

Some even find third tries to interest.
How old were you when you had your first?
Perhaps eleven.

I was a child,but I wasn’t seven.
Some get theirs later in life.
And they aren’t always real people.

We are only humans, social creatures outside the sea.
Some just grow up lonely.
And emotions don’t let you be.

First loves are unique,never sappy.
And loneliness at the time really got me.
