Everything I Wanted

I had a dream.
In it,I had everything I wanted.
All the gold and all the money.

But none of it was as sweet as lovely honey.
Because you weren’t worth any amount of gold and money.
You are worth much more.

The real gold was us on the dance floor.
And despite the dream,I can’t help but wonder.
If I told you,would we continue to wander?

So you said those words oh so sweet.
In my mind,it played on repeat.
You say,I am here.

So nothing and nobody can hurt you.
Don’t let the bad people fool you.
You didn’t want to lie here on the cold floor.

Yet you learned to,because you thought it’s the safest option.
If only you could see yourself the way I do.
You would ignore the words oh so cruel.

And so I said the same back to him.
I could sense everything within.
We both laid on the cold floor to avoid compromises.

As long as I’m here,sorrow can’t hurt you.
Because you are everything I ever wanted.
You are my bright,uplifting sun.

And my glowing,comforting moon.
If I had to choose between fame and you.
I would choose you,that’s true.

If only I could change the way you see yourself.
And surely you think the same of me.
Because those who hurt you just don’t deserve you.

They don’t deserve your voice,they don’t give you a choice.
We’ve both been hurt,so we drown in sorrow.
Fame and fortune can’t compare.

To the presence of your loved one being there.
And so we both say.
As long as I’m here,nothing will hurt you.

I will fight the demons of greed.
I would ignore any need.
Just so you are happy,safe and sound.

Let’s get out of this big cloud.
Into a place we both feel safe.
Because you are all I ever wanted.

And I hope I always have it.
