This entry is part 13 of 6 in the series Jacob and his wife Jessy

When life turns into a matter of survival, only then do people remember how they are supposed to behave.

In India, I often feel that people are trapped in the hunger for money. Everything revolves around profit, discounts, deals, and personal gain. A vegetable vendor stands the whole day under the burning sun, struggling to sell his stock, yet most people do not care about his hardship. They simply buy from whoever offers the cheaper price like blinkit, Instamart online delivery. In the end, it feels like money has become the only truth people worship.

I have seen different nations and different kinds of people — Pakistanis, Arabs, Iraqis, and Iranians.

Many Pakistanis who dream of fighting India seem driven more by anger and propaganda than by wisdom. Some struggle even for daily survival, yet still desire to rule lands like Jammu and Kashmir without understanding the value of peace or development.

But the deeper meaning of life, I witnessed among Iraqis and Iranians. I saw people who carried real human spirit within them. When foreign powers tried to overthrow their governments and dominate their lands, many stood united for what they believed was right. Adversity taught them purpose. Hardship taught them what it truly means to live. They were ready to sacrifice comfort, wealth, and even life itself for their nation and identity.

That kind of patriotism felt real to me — stronger than what I have seen elsewhere, even stronger than in Israel.

Israel lives surrounded by conflict, yet when thousands suffered and died in Gaza, I did not see humanity in those actions. I saw destruction, fear, and endless bloodshed.

Sometimes it feels as though the colonial mindset still survives in powerful nations like the USA, parts of Europe, and Australia — nations that continue to influence weaker countries through power and war. Meanwhile, countries like China and Japan move forward through discipline and hard work.

India, on the other hand, often feels lost in comfort and survival within a safe zone. Many people live only for money, pleasure, and temporary enjoyment, without concern for the suffering of other nations or the deeper purpose of human existence. In the race for desire and greed, people lose sleep, peace, and humanity itself.

Yet I still believe history will judge those who create wars and destroy weaker nations. Powerful countries may dominate for a time, but bloodshed leaves scars that cannot be hidden forever. Every empire that feeds on conflict eventually faces its own downfall.

Still, despite everything, I have seen both sides of humanity in this world. In some corners, people have become selfish and hollow. In other corners, there are still real human beings — people with courage, sacrifice, loyalty, and heart.

Jai Hind.
