This entry is part 10 of 45 in the series Poetry of Life, Death & the In-between

Since our brief exchange

Mother fell & broke her hip

(same one as before)

she’s in the hospital now, surgery tomorrow

of course, I’m worried & obsessing

sister embraced the drama spending her afternoon “calling everyone to tell them”

shamefully I confess, I just thought of you… no connection…

cheapest flight might be to Boston so…really no connection

maybe I was just hoping for a tinge of silver-lining

instead I now have worry laced with hopeless preemptive disappointment

probably once again we’ll be just 2 ships passing in the night

…and mom is still alone in a hospital room

painfully awaiting surgery

hoping to weave 84 year old osseous tissue

back again

i don’t want to call everyone I know

only you

& I’m not even sure

why

I’m just sad because

we remain as two ships passing

in the fog
