Beggars exist because of thieves
Greed still rampant after all these years
Innocence lost as a widow grieves
Corporate profits triple off bottled tears
Evil entered the garden and sin bloomed
Without words of love all light is doomed
Loners talk about freedom and lie
Inviting misery to tag-along by their side
Confessing to stars under a pale sky
In lowly valleys where the monsters hide
Strangers wander across this wasteland
Hidden secrets fester under desert sand
Silence sits heavy when left alone
Guilt is a product of doing others wrong
Words are daggers piercing bone
Smooth piano riff driving an honest song

Wow! With that very first powerful line, you kicked off a fierce and honest song indeed. No lie, I read that first line 4 times before I even moved on. That’s some seriously profound truth there. My friend is writing a book on the concept of deservedness and I think he would love this. You’re never afraid to dig in and uproot the worms. I’m going back up to read again, my friend
Thank you so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It was the kinda line that I knew I had something off the bat. lol. I do like when that happens, I’m a line guy. A great line kinda ignites the spark for the rest to follow. My biggest worry in every write is sticking the beginning and the ending with powerful lines. I can always fine tune the middle..lol. Well feel free to send him a link. Great idea for a book as well. “You can’t be afraid of the worms or getting dirty to find the truth.” I don’t know, is that line quote worthy? lol. Always enjoy your commentary, sis. Appreciate you.

Dear Damian, It’s a truth that because of the evil actions of some, other suffer, it’s a truth that who destroy earth, love and humanity are some “humans” if they are humans at all. They play the role of the Gods even playing with the destiny of others, but they won’t win at the end, evil won’t win over goodness as long as there are people who are like You real humans, no matter how few they are. Yes, your words are honest, effective and strong.

Damian this flowed like a beautiful baroque melody so dark yet so exqusiite in its imagery and rhythm. Your thoughts here made for real poetic gold. And the wisdom here is a real masterpiece of realism made into a river of scintillating poetry. You didn’t lecture rather your illustrated and with the true finesse of a poet who has walked many a road through this world we live in. Appreciate you.
John
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, John. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Your commentary really means a lot to me brother. It’s nice to know that after putting in thirty-seven years as a poet/lyricist that I still have some movement on my fastball, but I’m not afraid to throw my curveball either. I love using baseball references.. Appreciate you.

Writers have the intense obligation of stating the truth regardless of the outcome to themselves. Poetry is often a way to do so. Write on!
