    • yes, Willow, I will walk with you and everyone here wherever the trail may go. Incredible, inspiring write, and much needed read on this first day of the poetic year!

      with heartfelt thanks
      Clay

      • We need community and hope more than ever these days. If the fire burns low, we’ll just gather more kindling. Thank you, Clay

    • hello beautiful Willow this is very uplifting the current climate of fear is getting to me I fear a lot…this put my mind at peace❤️

      • We have to take the moments one breath at a time these days, and build our community so strong we hold each other up. They’re doing their best to bring us down. Gotta keep the fires of hope burning 🧡

    • This is such a beautiful song. Very powerful and you are absolutely right, we need community. Thank you for this.

    • Brilliantly penned, Willow. Now that’s a bonfire! Excellent lyrics with an amazing musical arrangement. Really liked the drums in this my friend. That third stanza worked as a bridge, I really loved the build to that moment, the bridge brought it all home. It was also the heaviest part of the song with the drums working like exclamation points to your words. When my brother was a drummer in a certain band, I often referred to him as: “The Human Exclamation Point.” Drummers help put emphasis on lyrics in my opinion. Nicely done per usual. Appreciate you.

      Damian

      • Drums are the beat we march to. Definitely the punctuation. I think I wanted a strong drum rhythm there to keep the energy building, keep the fire burning and hope going. Thank you, my friend. I’ll be bringing wood as needed to keep it going

    • This feels like walking alongside the poem itself—hand in hand through both shadow and light. I love how it turns struggle into hope, and hope into a quiet, unshakable victory.

      • So often we have to transition from one emotion and strength to the next. We’ve just endured one helluva year and we gotta build ourselves up and hold to our community to get through the upcoming days, but we can do it and come out the other side. Thank you, Thomas 🧡

    • Yes I will walk together with you and in hand, dear Willow, and burn yesterday’s pain to substitute it with new hope which you inspire so brilliantly with this masterpiece!

      • I think we’re long overdue. And we’ll need another infusion before long, I’m sure. I needed to rest my lungs from screaming. I’m sure I’ll be screaming again in a minute, but right here, right now, we need to build the fire. Thank you, Elke 🧡

    • The unifying spirit of this song reaches beyond the soul. Very beautiful.

      Much respect

      Naaj

    • Awwwwwwww nice!
This is like sugar for day old coffee, making it tolerable. Like a rare seashell after the bombardment of the ocean’s waves.
Thank you for this treasure of a poem. It’s a gem.

    • This is not only poetry but something else beside .. I could probably both read and listen to it pretty much round the clock .. Neville 😎💛⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌻👍

      • Trust me, I wrote the thing and there have been days when I did listen to it on repeat. I’ll be blowing the place up with rants, but I’m keeping this fire going. Thank you, Neville 🧡

    • I’ve been feeling this much myself of late. There’s a sense of division, of isolation, being forced upon us daily. The atrocities come so fast and so hard we can barely catch a breath before the next hits. We have this vast universe available to us in the internet. And it’s that very universe that’s locking us away from each other – ironic, that. It takes conscious movement to stay connected with each other and our humanity. But it’s taking a toll. I love that you repeat that verse of needing to just go home. Enough is enough, we’re tired. Brilliant write, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I knew I wasn’t alone in feeling and seeing this happening around us. It is faster than most of us can catch our breath. The internet is a rabbit hole, to much time there tends to rot the mind. It can’t be one’s only means of existence, we also need human connection and more than that we need to stay attached to life outside being online. I thought it was important to repeat as well. It may end up on the album. Appreciate you.

    • hello Damian this one hurts on a personal level my son in part duing to poverty and hopelessness drank himself to death at 37 he just wanted to be able to get his kids school clothes and other necessites I helplwssy watched on being relegated to poverty because of my poor mental health I fear a lot in this climate where people are driven to desparte meaure great write ❤️

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Brenda. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It’s a vicious cycle of sorts, people are being driven to self-medicating because they can’t make it in this world. The system is rigged against everyone but the corporations and the billionaires. I fear it as well, not knowing how far some are willing to go. So sorry about your son my friend. The younger generation has it rough out there in this unforgiving world. Poverty and mental health seem to never get the attention they require. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Well, this being the first write of the year, you started out with a mic drop moment. We all must go home eventually, but before then, when are we going to come together and help each other? We do stay separated, and those who try to connect get accused of having a hidden agenda when all they want is connection. A sense that they are not alone. This is so good cuz.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I thought I’d try to set the bar high. lol. I agree with you 100 % cuz, a lot of good people become jaded over time, it’s important that they know that they’re not alone. We need to learn to love one another, so many wiser men and women than I have said that in the past, but like all history it seems we keep making the same mistakes. Not all of us of course are so easily fooled, that’s why hope is alive and those who still believe are never truly alone. Appreciate you, cuz.

        Damian

    • This speaks of the poor, the homeless, to me. Getting them help is like jumping through hoops. The wealthy stay rich and ignore them. Those in power are absent. The government make promises, and forget them. Life in the real world is a gauntlet to be navigated. And so it goes….

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It is a vicious cycle indeed. Hoops that are tangled in a ton of red tape. They do make empty promises to get elected, then throw us overboard once they take office. It is a gauntlet for sure. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • There’s a raw, unflinching pulse here—I can feel the ache in each line, the weight of life bending the soul. The repetition of that fatigue hits hard, making the reader live every step of the weariness and isolation. Very powerful.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Thomas. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Thank you for your commentary and continued support, it really means a lot to me. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Your brilliance and talents shine in this very powerful & well written piece. Raw, revealing and so very real. Nice work Damian. Happy New Year!

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Happy New Year to you as well. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • This is excellent Damian & what’s more, I have been thinking along very similar lines .. Ragged & real just as it should be ..

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Neville. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Good to see you back. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • This strikes us all to the core, unfortunately. it’s like we are skirting the line of endtimes. Every day I check to see if the next big war has broken out. When it does, America is in for a rude awakening. Obviously, the biggest complaint will be the even higher costs of living, and not the loss of life. Values are askew.
Your write is a keen testament to this all. We the people will be pawns, still.
      Excellent visionary write, Damian.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mark. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I just write how I see it actually, like observing the moves on a chessboard. It’s not a good time to be starting wars, not that anytime is good. If you ever watched wrestling you’ll know what I mean. We turned heel. Plain and simple. Appreciate you.

    • Cleverly penned, Wally. Excellent write my friend. You had a couple of typo’s:

“Thus, I take up this quill and spill the ink to past the time” I think you mean “pass”

“Bu it’s fitting” this is the other.

      Appreciate you

      Damian

    • Thanks for the heads up Damian. I’m a little rusty since I’m just getting back to writing.
Always appreciate your feedback sir. Hope you have a great new year!

    • The Cailleach’s time of year is indeed a difficult one for many of us, my friend. When the sky refuses to wear that magnetic blue I love, I regrettably find myself “Winter Whining” as well haha. Your writing style and images here are akin to a cheekier Robert Louis Stevenson. Thank you for superbly poetizing your winter woes!

      Clay

      • Thank you very much Clay, I appreciate your comment.
The weather in the Central valley of California has been pretty much the same. I can count the number of sunny days from the past 3 months and the morning fog seems to get worse. But either way, it allows me to observe and express this “seasonal depression” which isn’t too bad.
        Hope you’re doing well.
        W

    • Oh boy, do I relate to this one! I would say spring is coming, but there’s 2 things about that…allergies if it does come; and no guarantee it will. We’ve talked our environment to the point that nothing is solid and predictable. I totally get this one

      • Yeah, the allergies are a pain. I love winter and spring (the summers are too hot where I live) and the spring only lasts for a couple of weeks before the heat takes over.
Thank you for stopping by for a read and do hope you’re doing well.
        W

    • I wait everyday for just a peak at the sun I get depressed on the grey days great write ❤️

      • Same crim. The fog has been really bad lately, I had to drive slower in the morning on the way to work.
        Hope all is well.

    • Dear W,

A very relatable write. I hate having to get up in sections to make sure I don’t injure something in the process. And when did my nose become a faucet?? I wish I’d invested in tissue stock. Great to see you and Happy New Year! H 🌷

      • Sorry to hear you’ve been sick. This weather can be so difficult for some of us, but I know the California weather doesn’t compare to the harshness everyone has been experiencing everywhere else. Hope you’re feeling better by now.
        W
