Next to last stanza is so-well worded. This quite sensual but not blatant, which makes it poetry that is a pleasure to read.
I also really like the stanza that emmagreen pointed out.
You have a nice variety to your writing.
I clicked that I was mature enough to read this poem. Even though I am 75, I probably scammed on being mature enough.j.

Second stanza, first line, did you mean “you’re”?
The repetition really works. And the shield me stanza is so clever and just rolls off the tongue.
Good, good piece of writing.

The interesting thing about this one is that, depending on how it’s read, it could be a woman or an addiction. Very clever use of words here, my friend!

Some people shy away from a poem that’s composed of rhyme. I’ve always felt that there’s a finesse to it that has to be refined like a piece of art. You have that quality. It speaks volumes, Damian!

The lyrics are so lovely, I feel the intensity of the emotions…the push and pull, the thrill and the ache. and the repeated chorus of “sweet novocain” lingers like a haunting, addictive melody. I’d love to hear you sing this. It’s beautiful

I sense there is more to this than presently meets the eye .. Good luck with production .. I suspect it will do well ..

There can be so many things that terrorize us. The worst is regrets of the past that stay with us. That haunt us in our sleep or just won’t let us sleep.
Getting rid of those demons can be a long, agonizing and scary process.
Really sharp personification here.

I am old school. Grew into a love of poetry because of my interaction with the Beat poets. Sexton, Plath, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, O’Hara and others.
This is confessional style poetry like Sexton, Plath, Levertov and others.
I really felt this one.

It does feel confessional in the way that poets dream about life & love, with a tenderness and unabashed desire both calm & brave. It is what the artform exists for.

I’m a romantic who believes the words of Cervantes
Too much sanity may be madness — and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!” ― Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Don Quixote

This poem feels like a quiet stream of thought turning into a river of longing. I love how it moves between vulnerability and hope–questions of love, time, and becoming a better self flow together with such tender honesty.

Joe, amigo what a write!
It felt like wearing an old comfy shirt. I love that line. It’s so true. Personally when it comes to relationships I think comfortable is underrated. Yes, we want to be desired and have great chemistry, but comfort is real.
It also means you feel safe. So important for love
Beautifully written
