Nirvana – Pennyroyal Tea (Live And Loud, Seattle / 1993)
One of my favorites by them – Nirvana – Radio Friendly Unit Shifter (Live And Loud, Seattle / 1993)
This poem is friggin deep. One of your best. There’s so much here that stands out. That rebellion that starts from disappointment or betrayal. It’s like you’re saying – I what? I can’t eat that apple? Get out of the way! Crunch!
I went to a catholic school – first to eigth grade. Imagine my horror when a detective called me one day asking if I was sexually abused there. It turns out many were. I never knew it.
My faith has gone back and forth. I believe, to…Hmm, looking around, I don’t know.
There’s a lot going on in this, but I love it. It stands out. Great work, Adelly.

Hi Tim!! Hahaha.
Hell yeah, I said move out of the way and took two bites instead of one. Hehehe
What can I say, listening to Nirvana got me in a mood. Especially the opening line where he sang -I’m on my time with everyone.
I don’t know, i felt like why wait, i’ll take a bite of that apple right now. And it grew from there.Like I was telling Damien. Follow what feeds your spirit in a positive way. Whatever that may be.
As simple as it sounds do what makes you happy:)Thanks for your snaps on my write amigo!

Hi Nev!
Thank you for that.
It was quite the feeling when I sat back after I was done and thought to myself, did I write that?
I actually went to an open mic night in town and read a couple of my poems. I’m thinking about reading this one next time.
I’d love to see the reaction. lolThanks for your snaps amigo!

Thanks Damien,
I truly don’t believe there is a wrong religion. As long as it isn’t hurting anyone and feeding your spirit positively.
For me it’s also geographical and cultural. I’m Hispanic and was raised with the Catholic Church so that is what I practiced as a young adult. As I got older I got curious about other religions. And I can thank the late goddess Tina Turner for that. Yes I watched the movie What’s love got to do with it! Lol.
She had a strict Baptist upbringing and later in life embraced Buddhism. It’s inspiring:)
You can always change your mind, even when it comes to something so sacred as religion. Thanks for stopping by amigo!

It’s interesting to me how the movement of this is similar to a snake, it winds its way down. And those last lines are powerful! I have a complicated relationship with faith. What I’ve resolved as my peace is that I don’t believe in religion but I have a deeply spiritual connection with my faith. Great write!

Hi Willow.
I’ve come to embrace faith.
It’s so much more stronger than religion in my opinion.
For me being female is powerful. Choosing knowledge for me is sensible not a crime.
I was always confused about why that choice had such consequences for a bible that is supposed to be about forgiveness.
I know it plays a larger role about giving us choices but still. Didn’t sit well with me.
Girl, don’t get me started! HahahaThanks for stopping by:)

(What Willow said!)
Hey beautiful. I am in love with your energy, as much as everything else about you. This write is a great example of what you can create from that incredible mind of yours. Hell yes I’m partial! But I’m also smart as hell. I know what is worth my life. You and your talents.
Bravo mi amor.-
Hahaha. Hey big sexy! I wrote this way back when I was going through a religion crisis!
Went to a church, no not a catholic one, someplace different and what they were saying just really put me off, so I left.
We find our way eventually. Just like I found my way to you:)
In that regard I am very blessed. You are an incredible human and I am so lucky to spend the rest of my life with you:)
Plus you bought me converse shoes too! What more can I ask for!Love you baby! MWA!😘

Hahaha, we’re getting a blend of soft core and hard core beautifully woven within this piece. We love the way that you flipped things showing your versatility and still kept it clean. Tight

Passionately penned, Mark. This is an excellent write full of deep wonderful layers my friend. Always enjoy your storytelling my brother. Another amazing read. Appreciate you.

Damn…the ragdoll analogy just knocked me on my ass. Some of us feel more ragdoll than ballerina all the time, and never a Barbie. I will say, as a girl who loved dolls, ragdolls are more resilient though, Barbies break easily. I love the quiet messages whispering through this

I burned my sisters’ barbies, when I was a kid. They were older than me and mean sometimes. So i got my revenge. LOL.
And yeah, I like to take a somewhat subtle approach to erotica, usually. I’m more about what feelings and emotions are going on, than the action sequences. I leave that to those who are brave, I guess?
Thank you, Willow.

There’s a level of intimacy conveyed with compassion and understanding
that effortlessly flows through your poetic verbiage, speaking to the human condition
like none other. Standing ovation all aroundMuch respect

I agree with Willow.
Ragdolls are more resilient. They might get scuffed up and look weathered over time but they are still together. Even if by some chance they do get torn apart, they can be sewn back together with new material or a different color of string. And maybe they can sew it themselves and choose a variety of colors or patterns we’ve always dreamed of.Love this piece!
Although when I was little I did get the Barbie car!! Haha

Dear M,
I really enjoyed the analogies and storyline in this piece. The fragility of life and that sacred place in our heads where we go to live out our safety dreams was wonderful the way you expressed it. This was enthralling and emotionally moving. While I’d love to be ballerina Barbie I find more mental flexibility in being raggedy Ann. Lovely write. H🌷

Awesome comment, H. And hey, good to see you onsite!
I edited the write a tiny bit. I took out where it said “still” in the lines where it mentioned ballerinas, etc. Because for many, it never comes to fruition, it stays just thoughts. I myself am a clutz. And I’m sure there ae more like me. LOL.
Your presence is a blessing.

I was the kid who made “Weird Barbies”, complete with permanent marker makeup…
But anyway, your poem — gosh I love your writing. You seem to have a way of really seeing people, and all the various dancing, flopping dolls that they are in their heads. What a gift. And well… the subtle erotica… what a lovely addition. Three cheers!

Hey stranger!
And I love your very generous comment! I try hard to make my writes worth the reader’s time. It does matter. And your comment lets me know that it is worth the effort, so thank you!
So, what are you posting of yours? Hmmmm-
I am posting daily on Substack this month for Ahavati’s NaPo! But tonight is the first time I’ve remembered this place for a while, and yes – I will share some here too, stay tuned. I wish I could keep up with things here but for some reason I find it a struggle!
I think Substack is going to become my main creative hub for both poetry & music. I can’t handle spreading myself thin over all the possible places, unfortunately.
