Love In The Time Of Katrina

Love in the Time of Katrina The wind swept through the backyardbending trees like kindling, howling windows, making them singa cyclone song filled with sorrow’s acheand love’s loss.I remembered these windsas I sat on the back porchwatching Winter’s snowcover the field and...

    • Yeah, that calm was not calm at all. The aftermath was. Terrible

      • Katrina, one of the long list of American crimes committed against Black folks. Countless numbers of Black people crammed into the Astrodome, that looked like the slave ships that brought African people here as slaves. The thousands of people who lost EVERYTHING and who were “dispersed” to different parts of the country. Yes it was natural disaster but made worse by man made oppression, like the whites who shot at Black folks on the bridge out of New Orleans, forcing them back into the floods. This country truly is a nation of barbarity and savagery.

Thanks Fia, it is always great when you come and visit my poems.

    Meeting Dali While Singing Nirvana

Meeting Dali While Singing Nirvana     The morning was heavy, thick; not from Summer’s heat or humidity, but from the dark shadows arising from the earth. As I walked across the field, it felt as though I was a fantasy wandering through reality. It was surreal, even though there was...

    • I love Kurt, I love him not because of his music, because of the man he is, the human he is, the soul he is. and no he didn’t kill himself, I’m one of those who believes it, have to say this. On the other hand I don’t like Dali lol but I surely can see how Nirvana’s music paints Dali’s mind. I’m glad I read this this morning, thank You my friend 💕 might be sending you some older poem after reading this.

      • WHAT!!??? You don’t like Dali??? LOL. No worries, I’m more of an Impressionist fanboy, than of Surrealism. Having said this, I find a lot of surrealism in Nirvana’s music and also in the life of Kurt Cobain. There is also a lot of irony in their music as well as in that whole period of time, the time of “Grunge” music (the 90’s into the early 2000’s). This was a response to the sappy 80’s music (though I admit there was some good music made then, mostly Madonna and Michael Jackson and of course Prince).

So, you think Cobain was murdered, interesting. At some point, you will have to tell me why you think this. What evidence do you have, etc.

Light, your visit was/is more than welcome, and I am thankful for your comment.

        • Thank You for accepting me as me and not kicking me out of the door of art lol as I’ve said, I understand how Dali’s work is connected to Nirvana’s music and yes Kurt’s life, Kurt’s mind was unique, and for sure surreal. I don’t know why many dislike the 80th, I love 80th and there was great real music back then, and NO ONE is like The King not even now!✨👑✨

As for Kurt being murdered, I might not have the evidence You want in my hands, but let’s us say it’s an inner voice I had since ever.

Thank You again, glad we can chat about other things through our poetry.

          • My bad, I should have been clearer. My asking about what evidence, I more meant the why, why do you think (or feel) that Kurt was murdered? For example, I believe that Jimi Hendrix was killed and did not die from a drug overdose.

Anyway, Light, I would never ever kick you out of the art room. NEVER!

            • I believe Jimi Hendrix was killed, so the king MJ, so Kurt Cobain, so many others… yet, the case in Kurt’s situation might be different, for me it’s enough to have that egotist brutal evil wife to have been killed not exactly by her, but with no doubt she has a hand with it.

    Emelina

Henry sat down on the ragged ottoman and sipped morning's first  steaming cup. Mmm. Delicious. What is life without coffee? Seagulls squabbling over a small fish drew his attention, and he gazed out through the adjacent, open window. A whole sea of fish,...

    • This must be what Leonardo was thinking when he painted Mona Liza

    • Thanks, Sam. I have no doubt that Da Vinci felt very close to the images he created.

    • This is really quite wondrous Sam .. a compelling story poem from beginning to end .. I was once an aspiring artist (still am on the quiet) and so I can relate .. Subsequently awarded the dubble 👍👍

    • Thank you, Neville. I’m glad you relate.

    • I’m happy other writers are seeing your work. It deserves much more attention than just a few comments. I think I may have read this once before, but the emotion you’ve created is still like new. You know how to set a scene and deliver every time. Excellent story Sam.

    • Sam, you know I’ve read enough of your work that I am honest in my comments. So I can say I am so proud of what you have done here. This is quite spare, and all the more lovely because of it. You convey the beauty of the artist’s creation through his eyes rather than his brush, and the love he has lavished her with, not the paint. He might have no talent at all; but that is not what he sees — nor us, because of it. It is very fine, my friend, one of your very best.

    • Thank you so much. Long before I tried to write stories, I smeared paint around on canvases–nearly always painting women. This story, then, wasn’t hard to write. Don’t know if you ever looked at my photos, but several examples of my artwork are there.

      • I checked out your photos once before but didn’t see any paintings. Did so again just now, and at that other site, but no joy. Someone steal them, Sam?

    • I don’t know how that’s possible. There are many drawings and several paintings there.

    Love Sonnet XLVIII

Love Sonnet XLVIII   Yaara, I must ask, what are your intentions, your promises? Will you give my heart peace, or will you bring me rain? Will you find me in these shadows, in the dark   places where I roam? It is here I...
