A poem on grief or a break up

WAIT

My tea went cold
As I sat waiting for you

My toast was soggy with butter
spread with Discontent
As I sat waiting for you

The cat at the window peered out in the sun
Of that morning
Whilst I waited for you

The school kids trod home in the sun
Past the house that afternoon
Oblivious that I was
Still Waiting for you

The text or call on my phone
It never arrived
As I sat waiting for you

I would of cherished any
Explanation and sent love hearts 🥰 back

As I sat waiting for you

I went to bed that night
But couldn’t sleep a wink
As I sat waiting up for you

However I’m still waiting to see you
One day

So I eat my hot toast
I drink my warm tea
I Pat the cat more
I sleep slightly better at night
I wave to the school kids
And smile

But
I don’t have your number
In my phone anymore

You don’t have a phone
Where you are
You don’t need one where you are

However I will still wait patiently
For the day
That I can see you again

Then I won’t need to be waiting anymore

    1. I hope the tea still retained some flavor.
AS Tom Petty sang, “the waiting is the hardest part.”
This poem shows real love and patience with a long term relationship.
They can work…I was in a couple of them…eventually it became too much…but for quite some time, we hung in there.
I feel the emotion of this.

    2. Ah, the active waiting while also having to move on with the life you still have. When you truly love someone, they stay in your heart forever, and you perfectly captured that here.

    3. It’s funny how when they’re alive and they go to the store or some other mundane chore, some may never think about them. And yet when their departure is permanent we can’t get them out of our minds.
