    • It is a bit musical. I wish for a better day, each and every day. That deer lost in headlights is so true

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. A lot of us do wish for better days, that’s for sure. It has a musical feel is on point, it pretty much demanded to be that way, I just followed along for the ride. Appreciate you, cuz.

    • I agree.

Thank you for putting it into words so eloquently.

    • Got my foot tapping away from the off to the end and back again .. Nice one too sir . Neville

    • Damian the fire in the eyes of those zealous followers of the pied piper elevated to guru status is painted in your poem with fire and smoke. Truly a smoking great poem that is as strong emotionally as it is rhythmically. You have real talent my friend.

      John

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, John. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Really loved the way you described the write in your eyes my friend. Thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

    • I don’t think I’ve seen subterfuge used in poetry before and you made it fit and feel perfect.
I think many of us are feeling the same way, especially with the way the world is going.
      Excellent write sir.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Wally. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I like using odd words or hardly used words from time to time. When I can make them fit of course. lol. The world is very fragile at the moment. Appreciate you.

    • You know some people never grow up and feel that the other person is always the one that is wrong. This is definitely on point.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Some don’t wanna grow up that’s for sure. Appreciate you, cuz.

        Damian

    • I had to chuckle reading the intro. I have a friend who used to say “Stop being younger than me, dammit!”

Reading through the poem I was struck by how powerful it is in its subtlety. You say so much without skirting closer than the edges, stirring thought and almost forcing eye contact with the subject. Apathetic, sadistic narcissist. That’s the person this speaks of…but those terms should be in all caps, I think. Another thought provoking, spot on piece, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I chuckled when J.J. said it, I expect those kind of comments from him as many summers as we go back. lol.

“You say so much without skirting closer than the edges, stirring thought and almost forcing eye contact with the subject.”

Those lines mean so much to me my friend, one of the kindest compliments I have ever gotten about my work. Thank you! It probably should be in all caps, but I was trying to use some restraint. lol. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Such a relevant write… well done dear poet

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, S. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Nice to see you back again. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Sometimes you just can’t understand the motives of people and why they do what they do…why they act the way they do. George Carlin said don’t give a shit about anything. At times, that’s good advice.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I agree with you, a lot of times I don’t understand the motives of some but a lot of times it’s also painfully obvious what those motives are. Carlin was right in many aspects about life, but it’s kinda on a person to person (situation to situation) basis when that advice works best or is a good thing. Something’s do require attention though. One must stay vigilant. Appreciate you.

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Brenda. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Empathy is important to morality and also it’s the guiding light of my observations of the world. It can be frustrating witnessing that there are some folks out there who don’t seem to have any empathy in them. So naturally as a writer I write about those kinda things. Appreciate you.

      Damian

    • Well happy birthday then, Damian. You don’t look a day older than yesterday!
Your rhymes are on point, sir. The message obviously, too. But, shouldn’t you be writing about something epic from your birthday?! LOL. It’s a milestone every year, is it not?

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mark. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Thanks for the b-day wishes brother. Why didn’t I think of writing something epic for my birthday? I guess I’m slowing down a little. LOL. It is a milestone every year indeed. Thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • I feel every word of this.

        Damian

    • Damian you write the theme of selling the soul for wealth with the perfect rhythm to carry the banner of your message with striking power and superb song writing. I love what you do with words.

      John

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, John. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Unfortunately it’s a reoccurring theme in a lot of my writes, I reckon it also has a lot to do with what I observe in the world. Thank you for the support. Appreciate you.

    • Hello 👋 Damien this is really deep,
I unfortunately am living with someone like this who is constantly blaming me for everything and takes no responsibility for his actions.

      Thanks for sharing this.

    • First, I hope you had a fantastic and soul-filling birthday. I have read this one 3 times now. I finish, sigh, scroll back up and read it again. It sinks into the mental marrow and stirs thoughts. You are a master of layers, my friend. I’m glad this one bubbled out of the “not yet” vault. It needed sunlight and shadows on its bones

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It was a good birthday overall, played some piano, talked to J.J. Burton, and spent time with the wife and kids. Thank you for the b-day wishes. I definitely write in layers, probably because everything I observe has layers, including myself and humans in general. I come by it naturally I guess. lol. The “not yet” section has tons of writes in it, although some need work or at the very least a tweak or two. Always enjoy your commentary my friend. Appreciate you.

    • Captivating and intriguing piece.

You’ve got me hooked from the start. I was drawn to this by its title.

Strong choice of words. Exquisite in its own way.

A bold and daring read. x

    • Damian this song on mortality and the grim reaper was one of your very best. The sheer lyrical strength was formidable here. I loved every roaring line. You really made this come alive for me. I am amazed.

      John

      • Thank so much for reading and your kind words, John. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I’m amazed after 35 summers of doing this writing thing I haven’t lost my love for the craft. I’ve had ups and downs sure, if I were to ever lose that love then I might have something to worry about. lol. Enjoyed your commentary. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • “Built a foundation on a fault line” I think this is a just as good if not a more accurate description that old adage of built on quick sand, because with a fault line, at any minute of any day, a quake opens up and swallows things up quick.

      Great work here Damian.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Wally. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I lived through the era where it seems everyone was afraid of quicksand. lol. Thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

    • This is deep. Glad you found it and posted. And while you’re right the world seems rigged, I don’t so much think it’s the world itself, but the humans pulling the strings.

You’ve got the grit to ask the ugly questions most folks bury under Tuesday morning coffee.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Thomas. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Spot on commentary, I’m always asking the ugly questions, maybe it’s because I can’t do caffeine. lol. It makes my anxiety so manic it’s intolerable. Appreciate you.

    • This took me back into the lines of Shakespeare about the stages of life but told in your original way with the rhythm and blues melody that really cast the spell as I read with the dark magic you infuse into your poetry so masterfully, my friend.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, John. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Now that’s stellar company to even come close to being in the vicinity of in a sentence with the mention of William Shakespeare. Appreciate you.
