My Routine — A Life of Learning and Balance

By Jessy Jacob

I have returned to the life of a student again, balancing both college and school while continuing my responsibilities at home and work. My mornings begin with my father’s gentle call to wake up. As I rise, the house is already alive with movement—the floors freshly cleaned by our servant and the comforting aroma of breakfast drifting from the kitchen, where my mother cooks with care.

I often wish I could help her in the kitchen. Cooking is something I deeply want to learn, but my mother never really allows me to enter or teaches me how to cook in her style, as she doesnt like how I make. Though that desire remains in my heart, I continue with the duties that belong to me. I brush my teeth, take a shower, and whenever possible, visit the temple to chant mantras and begin the day with peace.

After returning home, I have breakfast and log into my laptop. My day starts with preparing for my subjects, office work and attending my nutrition class. Later comes a lunch break, followed by my fashion designing class. In between, I also check if there is any pending office work to complete.

In the evenings, I attend tailoring classes and return home afterward. My father waits for me so we can have dinner together. Once dinner is over, I open my sketchbook and spend time learning art and sketching. Before sleeping, I reflect on everything I learned throughout the day. Then, while watching Stars Rite, adding my own poems, and reading the words of others, I slowly drift into sleep.

If someone looked at my timetable, they might think I am handling too many things at once. Yet strangely, my life does not feel hectic. I am not stressed. I have learned to manage my time well and use every moment meaningfully—learning, working, and earning at the same time. I carry a strong passion to build a successful and well-paid career. Life feels smooth now: full of work, full of learning, and busy without pressure.

I also follow a diet plan carefully. Although my laziness keeps me from exercising or walking regularly, I still manage to stay in shape, something my husband lovingly appreciates. My child will soon have holidays and spend time with his cousins. For Mother’s Day, I ordered something special that he needed as a gift for him.

One thought that stays constantly in my mind is my mother’s health. I watch her trying her best to recover from cancer by eating nourishing food. I am grateful that we siblings underwent scans to check for any cancer traits in ourselves. Through my nutrition studies, I have come to believe strongly that many illnesses can be improved or even cured through the right balanced diet and lifestyle, sometimes without depending entirely on medicine.

I often wish my mother would listen more closely to my advice, but she receives many different opinions from doctors. Deep inside, I still carry the hope that proper nutrition could help her heal. I miss my mother-in-law deeply, and sometimes I feel that if I had known everything I know now in Nutrition class, perhaps I could have helped her live longer and healthier.

This is my daily routine—a life filled with learning, working, dreaming, and quietly growing every day like a student once again. Waiting for the LAWCET exam results which are going to come on June 5, 2026. I am hopeful with either qualify or not but let’s see what my result going to be.
