Haven’t thought of him in years until I found the photo on an old phone and then read your piece. I met him at the library and we chatted and had coffee. I told him I was writing stuff about my childhood and he listened well. This was around 15 years ago. We met up a few times and had coffee after leaving the library each time. His name was Joe. He asked me to hit his ass with the belt and take it past him telling me to stop. Worst part was using my step-father’s belt which I stole when I moved out at age 18. I was crying more than Joe was. I took the belt so it would never be used on anyone else – but that’s what I did! I may have to write about this.
