nevertheless, your touch rearranges the day
although the morning sometimes rises with a weight I cannot name,
you step toward me
as if the world were lighter in your hands,
as if the air itself leaned in to listen
when you speak my name.
nevertheless, when your fingers brush my arm,
something quiet opens,
a door I did not know was locked,
a room I did not know I needed.
otherwise, I would walk through the hours
as a man merely passing through his own life,
but with you beside me
I become someone who stays,
someone who belongs,
someone who remembers how to breathe without rushing.
and although the world can be loud,
although the days can be sharp,
although doubt sometimes circles like a restless bird,
you rest your forehead against mine
and the noise dissolves,
the sharpness softens,
the doubt forgets its own name.
nevertheless, I return to you,
again and again,
as if your presence were a compass
and my body knew the direction
long before my mind understood it.
otherwise, I might lose myself
in the endless corridors of thought,
but your hand on my back
guides me gently,
reminding me that respect can be a form of touch,
and tenderness can be a kind of strength.
although the night sometimes stretches too far,
although the future remains uncharted,
although fear occasionally knocks at the door,
you sit beside me,
our shoulders touching,
and suddenly the unknown feels less like a threat
and more like a horizon.
nevertheless, we walk forward,
two men choosing each other
in the quiet,
in the ordinary,
in the spaces where words fail
and touch speaks more clearly.
otherwise, the world would be colder,
but your presence warms the edges of everything,
turning even silence into a shared place,
a shelter,
a promise.
and although time moves on,
although seasons shift,
although nothing stays untouched by change,
there is a constancy in the way
your body leans toward mine,
not claiming,
not demanding,
simply existing in harmony
with the shape of my own.
nevertheless, I stay.
and you stay.
and in that staying
a whole universe unfolds,
built of trust,
of respect,
of the gentle certainty
that love can be quiet
and still be vast.
otherwise, none of this would matter.
but with you,
with you everything breathes,
everything deepens,
everything becomes possible.

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” is widely attributed to the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. The words “We” and “Us” are words that multiply the values of the individual words “You” and “I”. Very well written and expressed.
We are the real things and togetherness is infinitely welcome.
Beautifully penned, PAR. Such an excellent write full of wisdom and warmth my friend. Nicely done as always brother. Appreciate you.
