we weren’t allowed to curse
so she never did it herself
always setting the good example
whenever we repeated words heard…
that we were forbidden to utter…
she’d softly remonstrate…
“now now now…watch your mouth”
but I learned very early
she had an exception
if pushed to full annoyance
(a rare event – she was the epitome of patience)
she let loose with a colorful invective
but in her mother tongue
and we were never taught that language
guess she needed safe space…
(as I silently giggled)
to toss the occasional blistering shizen into the air

hello beautiful Willow this is a very sweet and colorful memorty just wonderful ❤️
Those were good days. Amazing what children pick up without being actually taught. Thank you, Brenda 🧡
Great piece of poetry. Nicely said and wonderfully descriptive.
Ha! My dad would cuss nonstop. But never, ever say the “f” word. Like it was his last line before going to hell or something. LOL. I love your little snippet of how it was. I love this type of mini story telling, actually.
Beautifully penned, Willow. Outstanding write full of colorful memories my friend. Excellent storytelling as always, you really know how to hook the reader. It’s amazing the little things that stick in our head are often flavored with sweet nostalgia. Amazing read. Appreciate you.

Ohh. I was a handful when I was young so my mom would match me. Every time I got out of hand or rude so would she. It was a quick lesson too. You get what you give. Im a quick learner. I got that from her too!
This was a nice little peek into different family dynamics. lol
Loved it!
