The Lantern

HomePoetryThe Lantern

I held the lantern
To the world
I couldn’t see the light
From the dark
Like a searcher in the wild
Looking for the flame
That has the match
But can’t find a spark

I held the lantern
To the threshold
You can only see
Distant in the night
I saw falling stars that drift
For stones that gather moss
Feeding words to angels
Wounded in their flight

I held the lantern
To your soul
Hoping to see
Mirrors into mine
I saw mercy go untamed
In velocity unknown
Lost in corners
No heart can ever find

I held the lantern
To myself
In the end
Hoping I can see
A place to live in peace
With the sinners and the saints
Who left their mark
Lingering deep inside of me

      • Thanks! I have been doing variations on the random word challenge that you can do on this site. One of my poet friends gave me lantern, velocity, threshold, and moss. And those words just sung to me.
