Forever And A Day
Atop a gently rising hill
stands an ancient Oak.
Its broad, green soaked limbs
seem to be hugging the sky,
painting its blueness
with white, billowy clouds.
While laying under its shade,
you and me,
our fingers entwined,
look skyward,
play the old cloud game,
and dream.
+++
There is a slightly flavored,
lilac and wildflower,
breeze.
It tickles our skin
with similes of wonderment;
with the sweet aroma of hope.
It is one of those days
you wish would last forever.
And then I awoke.
+++
Awake now,
coffee brewing,
but my mind has landed on forever.
Forever is a haunting
surreal concept
tossed about frivolously
by ignorant idealists;
a concept
that eats your heart
with its pointed,
demonic teeth.
It laughs in your face
with serpentine delight
as it sucks out
the marrow in your bones.
Forever
lasts only as long as
sweetly colored dreams
don’t transform into darkness
and nightmares.
+++
There is a forever though –
it is the forever of death.
And the forever
of missing you..
