For The Rest Of Your Life- Part 3

I came to you expecting relief.

I thought you’d understand.

I thought you’d look at me
and finally see how far I was willing to go
to give you the life you said you wanted.

Instead, you looked afraid.

Of me.

I remember that.

I remember it better
than I remember her face.

You stepped away from me.

You told me I was insane.

You said you never asked.

Maybe not in plain words.

Maybe you said you wished she’d leave.

Maybe you said you couldn’t take another year.

Maybe I heard what I needed to hear.

But don’t stand there now
and pretend you didn’t know
how much I loved you.

Don’t pretend you didn’t know
there was nothing
I wouldn’t do.

    1. Powerfully penned, Kay. Another excellent write that adds a layer to the story my friend. This felt like it was told in a flashback, kinda retracing the steps of how these characters got to this point. Just my opinion anyhow. Amazing read as always. Appreciate you.
