    Pretend

Frozen stare fixed on a computer screen Watching the waves move with the sound Voice of reason always ready to intervene How long till the next song comes around   When did you start second guessing me? Turning mole hills into full blown calamity   Funneling booze...

    • Reminds me of the saying “you’re only as good as your last hit”. Not really sure why, but has that vibe of chasing a dream.

      Great ink

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Nick. So glad you connected with the write my friend. That saying is actually true to an extent. Whether it be a record company, or songwriting partner, they believe that to be the case. It’s a crazy world. Appreciate you.

    • Makes me wonder what happened & where he went in his mind. Watching someone whose clock is ticking on self-destruct mode is rough. Friendships always seem to be the first casualties. Sounds like he choose something not real over value, in my opinion, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with write my friend. In the end it was all about him. He only came to me when help was needed where his bandmates couldn’t help. What changed the most was even in those moments when I would help, he questioned every idea. Then would take something he liked I said, and totally reword it into his lines. That may sound petty on it’s face on my part, but it wasn’t like that until the last 6 months we were friends. It was like he doubted me for some reason. I mean all I did was get sober, while he remained on the sauce. Go figure. lol. Appreciate you.

    • Best line: funneling booze into a hemorrhaging mind…

      Great work as always Damian!

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Daniel. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I loved that line a lot as well. Appreciate you.

    • Fantastic work, my friend. Vivid and sharp.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Thomas. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Appreciate you.

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mary. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It was for the best I guess, he’s still doing the same thing last I heard. Meanwhile, I got a whole creative family/community first at DU then here at SR. I host, Backstage, and SpotLight. And I’m writing again, I think I did alright on my own. Appreciate you.

    • Always a joy reading your writes. Sadly, friendships usually don’t last forever. Great write my friend.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. So glad you connected with the write my friend. That they don’t, it’s kinda sad when you really think about that little footnote you just mentioned. Appreciate you.

    Field of Scavengers: Part One

It is post-apocolyptic America. Sometime in the 21st century, months after a thermal nuclear exchange between Russia and the United States, when nuclear winter had settled and that dark, thick veil over the sun had thinned to...

    Our Tranquil Flame

The voiceless tranquility of our flame, our souls searing with passion still, yearning an isolation as silent as our emotions. This flameless romance, this desert - windswept of all fertility, populous with negativity. A fondness for solitude now,I withdraw from her as I say,"where...

    • This life is not all there is. There was before. There shall be after. The play called life goes on my friend 🌼

      • hello dearest Joe you’re right of course he is likely reviewing this life and deciding on the next one I just hope to see him again I will miss him thank you for the love 💕

        • Its said, when you see someone in your dreams, they’ve been thinking about you. No matter the life, we are connected.

          • I believe that too dearest Joe and have seen it even with the poets we are close to as we often write on similar wavelengths I think we all carry the pain and joy of the world with us on our bodies and in our souls… it’s best to be kind to be people and be kind to ourselves thank you Joe for being you 💕

    • Hugs*** Brenda, may sorrow not be a part of you forever. I’m sure many care enough not to let your keep your head low forever, that including me as I read every poem you have written and know what a strong spirit you possess. With the angels now, he will be guiding you and your pen whenever you spill your heart over the page about whatever it is. Writing keeps both you and me alive, remember.

    • He will remain connected to you by that cord. You won’t see him, but you’ll always feel him. Grief needs its moment & nobody can tell us when it’s time to move on. You simply know. Brenda, this is beautiful ❤️
