    The Soldier

    I've been a soldier all my lifeserved with honour,behind enemy lines.Fought ferocious battleswith limited weapons.Captured and tortured—more than once.Escaped my tormentors—more than once.Recaptured—more than once.Changed and scarred;fighting does that to you.Tired beyond tired,ageing rapidly,seeking peacebefore death.It’s confession time:my enemy...

    • On going battle. Interesting work here.

    • Powerfully penned, Peter. Excellent write my friend. Life often feels like a constant circle to me, everything eventually comes back around. This write made me think of that again, so thank you. Amazing work. Appreciate you.

      Damian

      • Thanks Damian for your considered comment.
I try not to over complicate or force my writing.A thought just arrives ( at strange moments) that needs to be explored.
For example, while waking this morning I had a simple thought which I haven’t quite been able to expand on…’what is actually real’…might have to work on this one.

    Lamplight

Everyday is a dark day  I can't see the sunshine  I've been living by lamplight  For much to long   I don't know my own name  I don't know where I'm going  I don't know who I am Or where I was   Everyday is a dark day  I can't...

    • hello dearest poet I’d swear yoiu were singing my song lol great write ❤️there was a time in my teens this was true I was a complete night person never really seeing the sun…

      • Thanks for your motivational words. Feeling like a vampire. Yes it gets very gloomy at times. We lose an hour of light in the UK in winter and the clouds block out the sun, and its damp and cold and…
        You get the picture.
        Regards

    • Very relatable. Excellent work.

      • Thanks for you words of strenght. I’m waiting for the spring. The only thing I like about winter is the leafless trees.

    • Wonderful tribute, Fia. You brought out the essence of what it’s all about.

    • A worthy and well deserved tribute

    • Great tribute for a very special day.
      Thank you for posting this:)

    • Fia, the river of your compassion for our soldiers flowed like deep channel of understanding and empathy here. This also flowed beautifully as a poem. I could feel the emotions you evoked with this poem. This is truly a poem of remembrance and understanding for people who sadly are left behind long after the battle is over because their battle continues long after the war is over.

      John

    • Beautifully penned, Fia. Excellent tribute piece my friend. Appreciate you, cuz.

      Damian

    • Your brilliant poem shines with empathy, respect and understanding. Sadly, history repeats itself again and again. How many reminders like your heart touching and thought provoking poem will be needed until humankind learns to solve conflicts non-violently? Peace my friend!

    • Chère F.,
      What an exceptional write!
And before we point the finger of blame (if this is English) it is good to know that every country made their own mistakes at one time or another.
And as Goldenmyst says: the battle continues long after the war is over.

What an immense victory of talent (yours) over matter.

      Warm regards, Gus

      • Thank you, Gus. No blame shaming at all. Just acknowledging people are people and these particular people should be honored. Every country should honor its soldiers.

    • Fantastic tribute. Well said.

    • It seems all these years later, we are still hearing the reverberation of the lyrics to John Lennon’s song, “Imagine”. Living life in peace. When will it ever be?
