Well..you talk about me musing. Damian this makes you think and think hard. Favorite line
“Freedom’s a fading illusion masked as a tomb” -
You have nailed a hard and important topic with this one, Damian. The majority suffers at the hands and decisions of the few, and in my cynicism, I feel it will always be that way. We must not allow them to distract us overly much (conveniences, sports, politics, religion) or the sooner our end will be upon us. In my mind the song: In The Year 2525, is ever more relevant. Exemplary piece, my friend!
Keep writing the good stuff

this is very powerful it’s true what you say I love this because you brought it to light what everyone knows but don’t talk about ❤️

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Angel. So glad you connected with the write my friend. The elite have been fueled by greed and power throughout history. The thing about technology is it cuts both ways. What was once done secretly behind closed doors or in some backroom deal gets leaked because there is no honor amongst thieves, never was. Digital eyes are watching everywhere these days and secrets get exposed by those same eyes meant to keep an eye on John Q. Public. But that’s just my two cents. lol. Appreciate you.

These things are so much on my mind these days. My daughter tells me we can’t move or breathe without them knowing but we can’t stop. If we give up, they win and that’s what they’re counting on. So we keep picking at the cracks in their armor and building our community. They’ll destroy themselves eventually. I’d like to see them go down sooner than later. Another fantastically pointed piece, my friend

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It messes with me as well. Every time my phone or computer turns on the camera for a second, it makes me think how long has it been on when I wasn’t looking. lol. I’ve always written about “Big Brother” watching us since I can remember. Even though the name is dated, like everything else it morphs into something else. Even evil evolves as time moves forward, unfortunately. But I agree that we must keep chipping away at the armor. Appreciate you.

We’re living in a digitized world where we’re being watched at all times for the benefit of others. I can relate. Nice one, Damian. 🙂

I fear an increasing number of us are having our eyes opened for us big time .. its a crazy world out here isn’t it just .. Great ink Damian .. Neville

We are controled whether we are aware of it or not, the technology, economy, fear, etc etc… What’s that AI but soon to replace human! unfortunately a Crazy crazy world! But what I believe that after the complete mess comes harmony, after violence comes peace, after injustice comes the justice. You always carry the world on your shoulders Damian my friend, do take care of You and remember that You are not alone🤍

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Light. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I try to remain hopeful but it’s not always easy. I know I’m not alone and I do have balance in my life. Believe it or not the ranting that occurs in my writes is how I purge the negativity from my head. Thank you so much for the heartfelt commentary it means a lot to me. Appreciate you.

Damian we are living in an Orwellian society and your poem packs a mighty punch. You write the reality all around us with eyes that see into the machine. Your poem is precise in its illustration of the dystopian universe we are not approaching but are already living in. Appreciate you.

This is a heavy song, folks. But since it was Fathers Day, it kinda fits the narrative. Talk to one another while there is time. This one talks for itself. Get ready to possibly cry.

Damian, this is the real grit of what poetry can be when told by a poet who knows the dark roads taken by many. I could see the imagery rolling like the driver on a fogbound road headed for the mercy of the night. Each stanza is strong as a shot of whisky at midnight. This is what poetry is all about. I felt this brother. Appreciate you.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, John. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Unfortunately I know those dark roads all too well myself. Experience is often gained through trial and error, wisdom comes from learning from those mistakes made along the way. Thanks brother.. Appreciate you.

Okay, so this one took me somewhere unexpected. I had the sense of a long battle, a truce that ends the fight but not the enmity…so the enemy is kept within sight. No idea why that’s where this took me. My sister has been sober about the same length of time as you and she keeps a partial bottle of liquor up on top of her cabinet to remind her the enemy is real and not dead. She never touches it, but it reminds her of the darkness it carried, the times she lost and the gains she’s made. Keep the enemy in sight but don’t engage. That takes enormous strength, my friend

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It may have took you somewhere unexpected but that summary of where you went is pretty awesome. I used to keep 7 Bud Platinums in the crisper of my refrigerator from the last time I had a drink. They stayed there for the first two years of my sobriety as a reminder of how real and close the enemy will always be. Then one day while making room in the fridge I decided to take the training wheels off so to speak. I don’t want that life back, I’m much better off where I am. I poured them out and threw the bottles in the trash. That was over a year ago. So I understand your sister’s motivation for keeping that partial bottle around. I always enjoy your commentary my friend. Appreciate you.

Dude, I continue to enjoy a few Beam and gingers here and there. I don’t go out nearly as much as I used to, actually barely I’d say. But, I have learned that control is my friend. As much as I enjoy the time out with friends, etc, I know that there is a rational limit to it all. The best part is how much money I’ve saved! Really. I have a future/goals and now understand priorities much clearer. I never thought I had a problem, until I realized how much time and money as used up in it all.
That and how most bar friends can be quite fickle.
Your write is on point. The characters we encounter, the thoughts, the situations… all of it.-
Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mark. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Control is your friend indeed. Moderation is key but I didn’t have that gene in my system it would seem. Whether it be bars or at home I was never satisfied with having a drink or two. I always drank to the point of being numb. Which was after creatively venting all my emotions into lyrics or poems while pounding drinks. In my mid twenties I would buy a case of beer and a fifth of booze every weekend without fail. So yeah, it is quite expensive, I could have built a studio or something useful with all the money I wasted on addiction over those thirty plus summers of pickling my insides. It is nice to have priorities I learned that one as well. Bar friends are always fickle. lol. Appreciate you.

It is taking me a while to get around to the writings, but this is a powerful piece. She’s the lore to a familiar trap. I mean, man that is temptation at its finest.

The tale of the sugar sweet. Of bitterness to the truth. Honesty’s ink runs deep. Great ink Damian.

Straight to the point. I feel this.

Damian, I have never come across a poet who could write their emotional relation to another human being and the bottle with the deep emotions that roared through your lines here. I read this rapt by the imagery that unfolded. I could feel the unrepairable relationship and feel the sense of looming loss. You really have the gift with poetic expressions my friend. Appreciate you.

Writers have the intense obligation of stating the truth regardless of the outcome to themselves. Poetry is often a way to do so. Write on!
