• Voracious Appetite

Cruel intentions sit behind blue eyes Nothing normal about feeling this way Crawling on paper skin bruised by lies Darkness waits to seize a summer day   Sleepless nights filled with frustration  Claustrophobic words shallow and thin Filtering through arrogant conversation Naked praise wears this suspicious grin   Verbal...

    • You’ve gotta give yourself more credit, Damian.
The last lines indeed suppressed my own voracious appetite. The last stanza is my favorite.
      Nice spill my friend. xx
      ~P.G💋

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, P.G. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Nice, to see you again. I was pretty confident till the end. lol. It took me awhile to get the flow right, I had went through so many ideas that were cool but wasn’t working right. So though these lines worked I wasn’t sure, but from all the support in the comments, I chose wisely. lol. Appreciate you.

    • That’s razor-sharp and sinuous—like a poem with fangs. The alliteration of “verbal viper” and “voracious appetite” creates a rhythmic coil of menace and desire, as if the speaker’s confronting a charmer who cloaks cunning beneath sweetness. The image of truth dangling just out of reach—“suspending the obvious”—gives this a wicked elegance.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, PAR. So glad you connected with the write my friend. The words you used to describe this piece in your eyes was amazing, brother. That means so much to me, thank you so much. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • Your writing has only improved with time, Damian. Your struggle with the ending paid off in a victorious way.

    • Im reminded of the old adage…if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Goes right back to your other poem…gotta read the fine print. Believe the lies, trust the cardboard cut out caricature, you get what you deserve. Hitting nails on the head with a jack-hammer, as usual, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Very true, all the old adages and wives tales are quite accurate. You know me. lol. Appreciate you.

    • hello dearest Damian karma always has her way well said I am depressed it feels heavy this poem great write 💕

    • “Been swindled under some false pretense”, def felt that line.
      Nice penned my friend.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Wally. So glad you connected with the write my friend. One of my favorite lines as well. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • “grass is dead on the other side”. The older I get the more I feel that. Great ink.

    • Damian, I read and reread your poem. Took me into the heart of chasing rainbows and the stark reality that often is at the other side. Superbly crafted poem.

    • That hits with a quiet force—like courage stitched from trembling threads. The contrast between silence and the mask of bravery unveils a moment of deep vulnerability, almost like a portrait of someone holding themselves together just enough to get by. It carries the weight of all the things left unsaid when fear takes the reins.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, PAR. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Wow, you are so spot on with your commentary. Nice job catching all that, brother. I know I can jam a lot of things into a write. lol. Appreciate you.

    • Oooh, this one has a cozy, tingly feel to it. Can almost hear the soft murmur of voices & clinking of ice in the background. This one sings of intimacy, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Spot on, intimacy was very much on the menu. lol. Appreciate you.

    • That atmosphere is peaceful with a bit of loneliness to it. Nice spill.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I try, this was just one that kinda wrote its self. Appreciate you.

        • The way you describe your drink sounds like you are praising a beloved woman, her beauty, her character and attitude. And it seems like there are many parallels: in its velvety Amber colour consistence bourbon can have a soothing impact, It Doesn’t Ask unwelcome questions, it is simply there and understands …
A powerful and thought provoking writing that is as meaningful and important as it was 10 years ago. Brilliant, dear Damien!

    • Happy (early) birthday toast incoming! July 18 deserves a proper celebration—with Bourbon’s smoky charm and Vodka’s crisp fire clinking together in style. Here’s to bold beginnings, blurry stories, and the kind of laughter that lingers longer than the hangover.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, PAR. So glad you connected with the write my friend. You always find a way to make me smile. Thank you for being you and your continued support. Appreciate you.

    • Ahhh, Damian! 🥃

Nothin’s like sippin’ choice bourbon with a friend (on the rocks w/a splash-a bitters), sharing a tale or two with laughter in the air.

A feel good write that lifted an olde bard’s spirits ‘n brought a fond smile for moments past.
A lovely week ahead to ya, Syr Poet! ⁓ Rascal🖌

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Rascal. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Ah, the old days. I too loved stories over drinks. I still tell some stories, just don’t drink anymore. I wasn’t very good with moderation, only so many drinks on the old punch card. lol. Appreciate you.

    • I like how things are pulled from Damian’s vault. This is good.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I thought all writers have a vault? Don’t tell me I missed another meeting. lol. Appreciate you.

        Damian

    • This one took me somewhere…the smell of sulfur & the rising burn of hell beneath the feet. All I can say is, they spread their propaganda but nothing’s stopping us from spreading truth. Who knows what could happen when enough voices shout it? Your vault must be a gold mine, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Keen observation skills and a great sense of smell, you possess there. There is nothing stopping us from spreading the truth, it’s all I strive to do. My writing is so steeped in exposing the truth, even as a young writer, once I found my calling I knew it. So you can count me in. The vault has some good stuff in there, it also is the resting place for some not so good writes. In all honesty, I’m a hoarder I don’t even through my worst stuff away. Some have been known to be retooled and rereleased, others can’t be saved, but they tell my journey as a writer. I am also sentimental. I still have my first notebook of work, from when I was 15 years old. And it was terrible. lol. Appreciate you.

    • Very powerful write, Damian. Rage against the machine!

    • They surround and attack like piranhas. This is a good piece

    • I will continue to say those who believe the lies do so for their own corrupt reasons. Which begs the question…who is worse? The chief liars or those who choose to believe because it suits their agendas? I’ve lost friends & family to this current state of the world. Eyes wide open, mind wider. It’s the only way to make it through. Another solid write, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It’s truly a cult in my opinion, when no matter how much truth is revealed, they continue to follow. I don’t think most wanna see, or they actually like what the world is becoming. That’s how I see it, always enjoy your commentary. Appreciate you.

        Damian
