    The Replacement

Is there any greater sorrow than to lose someone you love? Nine year-old Jenny didn't think so. Sitting motionless on the backyard swing, she struggled with her emotions and wept. My heart is broken into many small pieces! How shall...

    • What a charming little story. I didn’t know how it was going to end up going about halfway through but alls well that ends well.

    • A heart-warming story, Sam. Your characters always have personality that is lovable in some way…even a cat. 🙂

    • Ah, the sweet, gentle world of an innocent young girl (I’ve one posted simply, “Girl”).

      Sam,
You never fail to touch your readers’ hearts, minds, ‘n souls in bringing to life your characters’ personalities (even a cat’s), and in how they each fit so perfectly into your stories’ always interesting plots … and, your grammar is exemplary.

This is a most lovely piece, and I love the surprise ending.
I hope you like it here, Sam … the site needs your “special” touch! ⁓ Richard🖌

    • Thank you, Richard.

      • Ah, yes, the story of the mean old man with the heart of stone resurrected by the hot love of a 1912 Ford. Those cute little machines just whirred and purred right into everyone’s hearts, didn’t they? Another horror story well told, Samuel.

    • Thank you. Yeah, scary stuff for Halloween.

    The Grass Can Wait

I was on my way to do something important when I saw her standing in the kitchen. Priorities must sometimes change, so I redirected my trajectory and approached her from behind. She'd done her hair up in a pony...

    • That must be the secret because some people seem to enjoy it a little too much sometimes. But in all seriousness, there are definitely days where it feels like you might as well just embrace it because that’s all there is left to do. Kind of reminds me of some song lyrics from a song I like, “So I made friends with all my demons/ Let ’em sink their teeth in/ Got used to the feeling of letting it go” and a mix of “you either laugh about it or you’ll cry”.

      • Thanks for the comment and the time it took to write it.

I find sitting still quite pleasant these days.No noise except for the sound of the universe.

    • How painfully correct you are.. and yet
while painful I still found the ability to smile during the read. Humans are indeed idiots.

    • It always seemed weird to me that in a world full of people most of us feel lonely. Great ink.
