Tonight, I am interviewing Nick DC, who doesn’t flinch when tilting the scales, in favor of “dark’s” heavy weight without a sonar.
Atticus: Nick, for the viewers who haven’t read you, introduce yourself.
Nick: ” Well, I go by Nick DC on this site. I’m a poet from the state of Ohio who’s been writing since my teen years. I’ve written for a number of other sites, mostly DUP. I like to write dark and emotionally driven pieces. My biggest influence is music. I feel like everyone says that, but I listen to all types of genres so you might see a bit of pop musical style to my work. It’s a hobby I do with no real desire for publishing. My overall goal is to work out some feelings and hopefully help others that might think like me.”
Atticus: Like you, I mostly trend to the dark but often splash some nature because it creates oxygen, so that the dark can survive. Do you prefer prose or poetry in poems?
-Well i think you can see it in my own work that it’s all prose. Though i approach poetry the same way i approach music; if i’m feeling it i’m feeling it. I like anything creative especially if you can feel the writers heart through their work.
Atticus: Name three of your favorites of novels and books.
-To be honest i’m not a big book reader so my choices might be a bit eye rolling, so sorry in advance haha.
Stephen King’s the dead zone
Machiavelli The Art of War
R. L. Stine Night of the Living Dummy
Atticus: What inspires you to write?
– It’s kind of my therapy. I usually write after a bad day to get my feelings out. Though, i’ve been writing so long and said everything x10 that i don’t really have a reason anymore. I like to think of myself as retired but with the occasional write. I also like to keep my eyes out for new unique poets.
Atticus: Do you feel the rhythm, and does the dark wind your clock or is the pendulum your choreographer?
-I guess you can say pendulum, though I think of it as possession. Like it pops in my head and there’s this voice that nags me till it’s written. When I was younger it felt more clearer though anymore I feel like I lose parts. Maybe from lack of interest, or maybe I’m just old haha.
Atticus: In writing dark, have you ever suffered acid reflux, swallowing your own words?
-No, but I have after a few chili dogs, haha. I usually don’t like the feelings I write down. At the core of its ugly but necessary to work out my thoughts. Most of the time i feel better like a purge. I guess you can say it’s a side of me i don’t want to take into my personal life. That’s why I like to work a bit of fiction into my writes to make them not too personal.
Atticus: How long have you been writing online?
-2012 I think. That’s about the time I found DUP. I was writing poetry just for myself but online gave me an outlet to really push my writes. Even if some of my early work was a bit cringe to me.
Atticus: Do you write a sum of words or until you finish what you have to say?
-Pretty much what I have to say. I try not to drag my poetry too much, though. I’ll read my work a few times and if it feels like I’m losing interest I’ll cut it down.
Atticus: Is AI a prompt or cheating in your opinion?
-I kind of don’t like AI. I think it’s cool but a problem. It feels not very regulated. Honestly I feel it takes much of the art away. Much like many other things it’s fine in moderation.
Atticus: What are your thoughts regarding censorship in writing?
-Art isn’t fully understood when you put restrictions. Censorship adds nothing but making dictators feel like they can control everything including your art. If you feel that shit say that shit.
Atticus: Do you believe in ghosts or evil spirits?
-I often struggle with the spiritual side of me. I don’t really see it now in days but when I was a kid I had a few encounters that felt very real. Sometimes I brush it off as me being a kid but once in a while something will happen that seems supernatural. I guess it’s similar in how I feel about my faith in god. I know it’s there, but i’m not gonna pretend to know anything more than that.
Atticus: Do you believe in The Ouija or The Tarot, and does fate shadow you.?
-I believe that there’s something to them. I don’t know if I believe in fate. I hate to think we have some kind of outline to our lives. Like god was up there like I’m gonna create humans and have an orange jackass to lead them, haha.
Atticus:If you were to build a statue of your self, would be your alter ego or the true you?
-I don’t think either. I’m nobody special to anyone but my family. A statue should send a message of greatness. A symbol of a great person. So I would make one of someone like Ozzy. But when it comes to what I would like to be known for to the world, DC. But I also don’t want people to mix that up with the person who is a kind and simple man.
Atticus: That conclude my interview with DC.

This is a good interview. I like getting to know the writers on here
I agree, Fia. It was interesting.
Both of you did a great job here! It is an art to ask the right questions that inspire the conversation partner to give uncensored and honest answers. It was really interesting and inspiring to read this interview!
Thank you, Elke.
Thanks for the interview. It takes a special person to interview and get to the heart of a person. And I know it’s always appreciated by the community. I think at the end of the day we all just want to be heard.
Great interview, Adagio. Nick is an honest writer with a style I really dig. Appreciate you both.
Damian
Thank you, Damian.
