Tom Foley used to be a child
who loved to have fun
never caring about skin
culture or religion
yelling out on the jungle gym
let’s do war!
playing until the streetlights came on
he left his friends laughing
hoping to see them the next day
his parents told him
stay away from the black, brown
and yellow ones
the words they used
were more childish than any 2 year old
back on the playground
he picked on the colored kids
pushed them down
and stole their toys
pledging allegiance to a flag
while the other kids pledged it to each other
Tom Foley grew up controlling
now he has a wife and kids
who are afraid of him
he teaches the same hate
joining extremist groups
following a man who sounds like his father
now war has become all too real

Powerfully penned, Nick. Hatred is a vicious cycle for sure my friend. Appreciate you.

I find it funny how kids seem to have it figured out better. The older we get the more complicated we make things.
Thanks for the read friend.
