The Liar’s Chair

Bookmark
HomePoetryThe Liar's Chair
There is a man
Who does what he can
To use, abuse, and lie
Doesn’t care who he hurts
Or who he deserts
Don’t ever dare look in his eyes
If it’s you he may use
It’s you who will lose
He will bring you down to his size
It isn’t really fair
But he’ll put you there
With him in the liar’s chair

There’s a woman out there
Who’ll get you nowhere
And knock you down to your knees
She’ll take away your grace
And slap you in the face
Then act like she just wants to please
But when you ask her to stay
She just walks away
Saying it was all just a tease
Yet you were always aware
She never really cared
You’re with her in the liar’s chair

Look out for the child
Who embraces the wild
With every single lasting breath
While walking the line
They claim to be fine
Too young for the pride they ingest
Still something is wrong
It’s been brewing too long
And sending them close to death
You must always beware
And show them you’re there
To keep them from the liar’s chair

The businessman comes
And says he’s the one
Who truly is your only friend
But when your job is gone
Was he there all along
No they always split in the end
And the truth of it all
He was never that tall
Here’s a message to him you can send
Take your businessman stares
And your corporate affairs
And rot in the liar’s chair

Politicians they spin
They say anything to win
They never have your interest at heart
They take money from bums
Turn our world into slums
Tearing life as we know it apart
And they are always exposed
As emperors with no clothes
Obvious from the very start
Are we really that scared
To put our hands in the air
And vote them to the liar’s chair

Some preachers they claim
To walk in Jesus’s name
But what have they done to his word
They twist to their gain
To make you feel ashamed
To make you judged and disturbed
Then they ask you to pay
They don’t ask you to pray
While the world just gets worse and worse
I’m sure God is aware
You won’t find him there
With them in the liar’s chair

And this writer does write
About things that aren’t right
His anger is made very clear
He may have something to say
Of how we all lost our way
Thanks to our cowardly fears
And the very sad twist
Of his shaking of fist
The irony you won’t want to hear
He wants you aware
That he put you there
With him in the liar’s chair

    1. Powerfully penned, Brandon. Excellent write that is unfortunately filled with a lot of truth my friend. It also reminded me of Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” though I know Trent Reznor wrote the song, Cash made it his. He mentioned the Liar’s chair in the lyrics. Nicely done per usual. Appreciate you.
