Tequila Blues

Summary:
No Tequila was harmed in the making of this poem. ;)

Don and I have become friends.

and we make quite the odd pair.

Just an unruly girl and a bottle;

Drinking myself silly,

the way I cling to him

you’d think it’s an affair.

Don only gets the worst of me

but he makes me feel so much better..

My head is telling me to drink more,

my liver screams “GET IT TOGETHER!

Mind and heart battle constantly,

but my heart will always lose.

I’ve emptied yet another bottle,

cos I’ve got the Tequila Blues.

    1. Beautifully penned, P.G. Love the flow and wordplay my friend. Used to like Tequila, even better was Mezcal. Of course those days are long gone, I wasn’t able to do moderation very well. Anyways a great write. Appreciate you.

    2. Coconut tequila and pineapple juice, too delish and dangerous. I don’t drink alcohol anymore, but if I did, I’d be sitting beside you, girl.
I agree with Damian. Love the word play.

    3. There is so much to unpack here: the not-quite-healthy relationship that just feels so good, too good. The conflicting knowledge that you seem all too aware of: /My head is telling me to drink more, my liver screams “GET IT TOGETHER!”/ Been there, done that too many times. Vodka was my liquor of choice, and Stoli was my dear friend (along with Camels) for a good while many years ago. The fact that the knowledge is there speaks volumes to you as a person. Excellent write! <3 Echo
