The sea
The gentle lap of waves
Wash upon boards weathered gray
Some split or warped
Along the dock
Strung with fenders of plastic, and tires
Near the end, of hemp
Worn and battered
And I wonder when, if ever, all of this was new

Salt air and the thought of you
Chimes my mind of distant reveries
As I recall your voice, your words
Like sifting between golden sands to catch glimpses of you
Certain phrases give weight to the air
As I leave the pier
Wandering past wood pilings and beach grass
Down to where water meets the sand
To lap foaming
Only to recede

You’re near
Though I can’t touch you

As gulls circle, wheeling and screeching
Near an o’r turned boat and drying netting
I image you in a dress that sometimes catches the breeze
With a momentary flash of leg as we stroll
Your hair
Wisps
Dances, hangs motionless, and falls
To be brushed away only to rise again

It should be a sunny day
Not too hot
Warm as your prose
Deep and changing as the sea
The lines that I read
I wonder how you would smile at me
Walking barefoot in the surf
Children smile wide open playing at the beach
Adults not always so

There’s always a boat on the horizon
Some farther, distant thought which beckons
But I need no distractions save to lay the blanket down
And lay with you beside me in some quiet drift of sand
I wonder
Is that mind so quick and clever when your near
Or is it pensive, searching words
Which sparkle
Polished when they come

I hope its just idle banter and sweeter laughter

What does the sea bring out in your eyes
Close, as my hand brushes your cheek
To move a strand of hair
Close
I day dream of you near
And blue skies over blue
Horizons within horizons
And distant dreaming
As the thought of you stills the air

As would a kiss
Just some things need no words
Nor thought
Yet are dream enough

    1. hello dearest Joe this is so beautiful how you envision this lady my face is open and my laughter sweet…I can’t lie it shows on my face so I try to be honest as I can but that can unsettle too…you’re very romantic to be seen as such is so passionate 💕

I admire the delicate flow of this poem, it really does take me on a journey.

A much needed break from reality.
