Sahara/Oasis – collab w/Styxian

HomePoetrySahara/Oasis - collab w/Styxian
Summary:
I was reading a poem by Crimsin titled Pulse. The first line was - The desert winds pour over. My mind blasted off. I know you’ve all felt it before. That moment, that trigger of inspiration. I wanted to put a play between the oasis and the desert and how they are connected I know most of you have commented on Mark’s page but I had to post on mine too!

Will you remember me
beneath all this sand
Will you recall a time
when my love was lush

                         I have not forgotten you,
                         not beneath this heat,
                         not beneath the years
Your name is the only shade
                         I still stand in

Where there were no
mirages just mirrors
that reflected our
love for one other

                       Where you see only dunes,
I see the riverbed we carved,
                       the one that waits
                       for the sky to remember
                       how to open

Bountiful and
in abundance
before the earth shifted
taking me with it
far too soon
before I was ready
buried alive by drought
and your footprints

You were never lost to me
                         I felt you sink,
felt the hush of your leaving,
                         felt the sand close
                         like a held breath

I feel you searching the
dunes in each arid step
unaware of my slumber
beneath your feet

                         I walk the same desert,
                         my steps a quiet vow,
my thirst a kind of prayer
                         that still speaks your shape
                         into the wind

And when you finally
fall to your knees
as we tend to do
when love is lost
remember, one must dig
tenaciously
unapologetically
as if searching for treasure

                         And if I kneel someday,
                         as wanderers do
                         when memory overtakes them,
I will dig with the certainty
                         of a man returning home

Until your hands bleed
and I promise you
will find me in water
cleansing your hands
assuring you everything
will be fine
you will always
be mine

                          My hands will bleed too,
                          but only because
                          I am breaking the crust
                          between us
                          not because you are gone
                          For when I reach you,
                          I know you will rise
                          like water from stone,
                          cooling the years
                          from my palms

But for now
in the Sahara
you must continue
to walk without me.

And I will tell you then
                            what I whisper now:
                            you were never the desert
                            You were the oasis
                            I kept walking toward.

      • Hey baby!
Thank you for collaborating with me and letting me boss you around. Hahaha
I literally wrote this and said add your part and don’t give me any lip about how sad it is. lol

        Love you!

    1. There is a Welsh word, cariad (pronounced carryhad) which is multiplied meaning of lover, partner and darling. You two are the synthesis of this word for me.

      • Thank Fia! We were actually talking about the desert and the oasis the other day on FaceTime. Had no clue we would be writing a poem about that subject! Life can surprise you!
You just never know what will make for good conversation and poetry.
I love that we merged it into one piece.

        Thanks for stopping by!

    2. I saw there were a bunch of comments on his post, so I sauntered over to post mine on your post instead. Gotta spread the love evenly, ya know. This is a beautiful collaboration and I fully relate to the desert/oasis vibe. I once wrote a piece titled Shifting Sands for my sweetie. Maybe I’ll drop it here at some point too. It’s funny how a word or a phrase acts as a springboard and we’re off!

      • Hi Willow. You should post it!! Whenever you are ready too, I’d love to read it.
You are a fantastic writer chica!

That’s what I love about being surrounded by writers. You just never know when you will be inspired. It just kind of crashes into you!

And thank you for stopping by on my post:)
        I’m glad you enjoyed!

    3. Love like this doesn’t die—it just gets buried deep, waiting on stubborn hands to dig it back into daylight.
Your desert’s harsh, but the water’s still down there somewhere, whispering both your names.

      • Hi Thomas! That is exactly what i was trying to convey.
I was trying to find different forms of separation that are connected.
Everyone writes about the sun chasing the moon or vise versa.
I’m stoked that you got it! We gotta dig buddy, to recover from lost love and to find it.

        Thanks for stopping by!

    4. Beautifully penned, Adel & Mark. What a lovely collaboration, really love the back and forth between you two, as in life and in love, your words also show your undeniable connection. Nicely done. Appreciate you both.

      Damian

      • Hey Damien!

When you connect with someone on a physical level and outside of it, you hold on amigo.
Mark and I have great conversations all the time. We really do pay attention to each other and have great laughs too.
Don’t get him started on aliens!! Hahaha.
Which is how we got to talking about the desert and lost civilizations.
Then I read Crimsin’s poem and it all just clicked and the words began to flow like sand!

        Thanks for stopping by Damien!
Always a pleasure seeing you on my page amigo!

    5. Dear A&M,

Two hands writing as one was inspirational to say the least. I found such hope in this write for those of us lost in the quagmire. I enjoyed how this write came to be and how we can create from a grain of sand from someone else’s sandbox and share. So many levels of metaphor, love, singular and joint thoughts. Loved the connection of the stanzas and how it was formatted in conversational style. Great piece! H🌷

      • Hi H!
I love this comment. For me it’s important when writing to also acknowledge the inspiration behind it.
Mark inspires me all the time, so do other writers on this site.

I also wanted to find a different metaphor besides the sun chasing the moon.
There are other connections we can draw from to write.

Im so happy you stopped by for a comment:)
        You are awesome!
