Riding the Current

HomePoetryRiding the Current

There’s no night like tonight
They’re all different
I went out there
I could taste the air
The power lines buzzing
I became part of the current
Like I knew exactly what was supposed to happen
So when the pig ran the stop sign and nearly ran my ass over,
my heart didn’t skip once
I watch the man across the street watch me
He’s plugged in too
We’re both riding the current
It’s not paranoia
It’s just being on
Connected by the eyes
The eyes flash like knives
In the 7-11
I watch the man behind the counter
Trying to lower the voltage of a drunk giving him a hard time
He’s challenging his nationality
The drunks eyes are glassed and out of control
He’s ready to blow out
On the way back my entire body hums
I think that I’ll never get far away enough from this
Do you ever feel the need to go somewhere?
To forget everything so you can remember yourself?
You get a good way down the road and then the phone rings
Not tonight
A night for nights
Dried blood by the bus stop
A car patching out in the parking lot of the market
Where the hell could I go?
No, I’m plugged in
Hooked for good!
