A caring home was an old man’s residence
Dementia robbed him of remembrance
Though his memory was dark and grey
His wife came to visit him every day
She did her best but it seemed certain
Nothing would lift forgetting’s curtain
She brought their dog and their cats
The hamster and all the other pets
She sang to him his favorite song
And encouraged him to sing along
Sadly all her efforts were in vain
In his eyes only questions and pain
One day a nurse came up with a plan
Smiling, she suggested the old man
What about going to the Coffee House
Like you did before, with your spouse!?
No! This isn’t my wife! I want the other
With whom I had the best sex of my life!

Oh dear…..honesty is not always the best policy.
Poignant but beautiful.❤️
Suffering from dementia is hard – for the patient and for their family as well. I know a woman who stood by her mentally disturbed husband strong as a rock. She told me, ‘I know who he is at his core, that’s enough for me!
Thank you so much for reading and writing such a kind comment, ‘ dear Peter!
So sad and then that ending…a surprise smile.
