They ask me what I do all day
now I’ve left the working life,
“Oh nothing much,” I always say
and spare them all the strife.
But today I rose and breakfasted,
and stripped the bed down bare,
put three loads of washing on
and hung them in the air.
Walked a bit and swam a bit
and popped down to the shops,
had some lunch and read my book
until my eyelids dropped.
Brought the washing in again,
folded, put away,
had a shower,made the bed
meditated for the day.
Cleaned the pool and played guitar,
dinner on by six
and people think retirement’s just
a bag of easy tricks.
Nothing really, nothing much,
that’s always what I say.
It’s funny how this nothing
fills each and every day.

Hi B.,
Hope this finds you well?!
What a stellar write!
I’ll be back tomorrow to have another laugh or two.
I stopped working some 15 years ago. Not retired exactly but more like enough = enough.
I wish I had your write at that time!
You’re my hero!
Kind regards, Gus
Finally im someones Hero…..glad you enjoyed it Gus
I know when I retire, I will still be busy. Nothing is never nothing, right.
Powerfully penned, Peter. Excellent write my friend. Appreciate you.
