HEAVEN’S SOULS OF 9-11

HomePoetryHEAVEN'S SOULS OF 9-11

The sky, a brilliant and unblemished blue,

September’s morning, a world fresh and new.

No hint of shadow, no whisper of dread,

As towers of commerce stood tall overhead.

In bustling streets, the city awoke,

To the rhythm of life, a hopeful stroke.

Then silence shattered, a searing, sharp cry,

As smoke and flame stained the perfect blue sky.

The world held its breath, in disbelieving awe,

At a sight that defied every natural law.

Two pillars of steel, a nation’s proud heart,

Were brought to their knees, torn cruelly apart.

A fire, a scar, on a city’s bright face,

A gaping wound in time and in place.

And heroes emerged from the dust and the ash,

In a selfless, unwavering, courageous flash.

From the Pentagon’s walls, a grim, silent tear,

In a Pennsylvania field, a final, last prayer.

The phone calls of love, whispered in haste,

As hope turned to memory, never erased.

And in every home, a story untold,

Of a future that faded, a promise grown old.

A world changed forever, in a single sad day,

As innocence crumbled and melted away.

Now years have passed, and the wound starts to heal,

But the ache in our hearts, we continue to feel.

The towers rebuilt, and a memorial’s grace,

A sanctuary of love in a solemn place.

And as we stand here, in the year twenty-five,

We still wish with all our souls they were alive.

We wish for their laughter, their wisdom, their grace,

The light they brought to this beautiful place.

Their names are engraved, a permanent trace,

Etched not just in stone, but in time and in space.

For their memory lives on, in all that we do,

In a promise of peace, and a spirit so true.

And on this day, we honor their flight,

Remembering a morning, that turned into night.

May they rest in power, in infinite peace,

Until all sorrow and suffering cease.

    1. Nice work Navina.

It was a dreadful act but so was the response.America has changed much since then and not for the better.

I hope one day the good American, the kind American, the compassionate American, the generous, welcoming American will triumph over the greedy, selfish egomaniacs that currently run the show…..but I doubt it.
      🙏

    2. I remember the day well. I lost two friends in it, both fireman. Everyone knew someone who died and many lost their faith that day. This is an excellently written poem.
