Deprivation of Sleep

Summary:
A severely sleep-deprived man descends into paranoia and hallucination as he struggles to stay awake, becoming convinced that something waiting within his dreams is slowly closing in on him. Is he going crazy or is he seeing something otherworldly?

I’m so tired, I just want to sleep,

but they wait for me in my dreams.

Awake now for over a week,

beginning to find some people are not as they seem.

They’re them, in disguise.

Just waiting for my eyes to close,

just waiting for me to dream.

From the corner of my eyes,

I always see them constantly creep.

From the corner of my eyes,

I always see

that they’re constantly watching me.

Exhaustion has reduced me to beg.

PLEASE!!!

I shout like a madman.

I just want to sleep!

But it’s all in vain.

They still watch, they still wait,

always watching,

always waiting so patiently.

I get a sense deep within my bones,

they aim to take my very soul.

They…

They aim to take my very essence,

my lifeforce… my soul.

Oh, how it’s been such a long, exhausting week.

My eyes are getting so very heavy.

I just want to sleep!

My body’s getting so weak.

Into waking life, into our reality,

my dreams…

My dreams… they… they begin to seep.

Sleep, sleep,

please, I need to sleep!

I can sense them, see them,

getting nearer and nearer every day.

Sleep, sleep

NO!!!

I must stay awake.

I MUST STAY AWAKE!!!

I will not allow them to…to…

to take me, to take my life.

Oh, but how I wish,

I just wish I could finally sleep.

The walls in my room…

They’re… or at least appear to be…

Yes, they definitely are!

The walls!

They’re closing in on me.

The floor in my room

is twisting beneath my feet.

Leave me alone!

I just want to sleep.

The air all around me,

the air… perhaps reality itself?

It begins to shimmer so…

otherworldly…

My mind and body,

my mind… and body…

I’m just so damn tired and weak.

All I need to do is sleep.

Goddamn you!

Just let me sleep!

I think they heard me now.

I think I can hear them now.

They’re calling for me,

screeches echoing from everywhere.

I can see them now.

They’re so very near.

It’s too late for me.

My heavy lids shut,

and I shed a tear.

Exhaustion has won.

Their time for reaping,

their time has come.

Sleep has come, dreams begun,

dreams begun, sleep has come.

Oh, how it’s been

such a long, torturous week.

But it’s over now,

as I’ve fallen asleep.

It’s all over now,

for I am now theirs to reap.
