A Fly and a Secret

Bookmark
HomePoetryA Fly and a Secret
Summary:
A reflection on getting my bedroom door back after months without it. On June 10th a fly was there.

Footsteps pass the doorway
A small breeze often checking on me
They’re heartbeats—pretend knocking
Silence grows louder than the moment
It never leaves me be

Night lays wide awake
Glaring at a stormy ceiling
—Torn observations
This room’s clothing disintegrates
In darkness, sleep lies naked
Birds coo inside dawn’s void

Good morning nightmares
Aren’t you so proud of me?
For waiting until you remembered to care
About not wanting to deal with me anywhere

The crying stops as the door returns to swing shut
Just the fly and me now
Droning in void’s dawn
Buzzing replaces what is left
I am only here to ignore myself

Muffled voices and laughs
Sleep tonight
Everything is okay, it’s much better this way
Relief finally has room to let day rest

Aren’t you so proud of me for everything you don’t see.
Aren’t I so proud.
