    A Dream I Had While Asleep, January 20th 2026

A Dream I Had While Asleep, January 20th 2026     The air in my grandparents’ house tasted of woodsmoke and old memories, a stillness that usually feels like an ending. But then she was there. Marsha. Not as a memory, but...

      • Deep gratitude my friend. This story, based on a dream about my late former wife, was the most emotional dream I have ever had about here. Very glad you enjoyed this, my friend. That means so much to me. Thank you so much.

        John

    • Beautiful piece John. Well written and marvelously executed.

      • Gracias Visions. Very happy you enjoyed this dream story about the visitation from the beyond from my late wife. Thank you from my heart.

    • This is a lovely story. Love this line
“a reminder that even in dreams, our love carries the weight of our fragility”

      • Thank you so much Fia. Glad you enjoyed this. This vignette was based entirely on a dream I had a couple of nights ago. Much appreciated.

    • Dreams always have some kind of meaning behind them. Trying to figure that meaning out is the hard part. Perhaps the lost dress was a representation of words that were never spoken. Or desires never totally met. The ending is warm and affectionate. As a poet or writer, dreams can be of value, which in this case, was beneficial for a good story with a happy ending. 🙂

      • Tim I love your insights here. Indeed you illuminate he hidden nature of meaning in dreams. Indeed, I do think the lost dress held a meaning. As did the atm machine. I could imagine the atm machine meaning that the love we had was never really about money but that she was looking for something more than what money can buy from me. Thank you so much for sharing your insightful thoughts here. They were greatly appreciated.

    • Chère C.,
In the Netherlands, we believe that everyone has ‘een rugzakje’. A backpack, but the addition of ‘je’ can’t be translated as far as I know. It’s there to indicate that sometimes it’s heavy and sometimes less. If I make any sense.

In this rugzakje we all carry things from present and past (mostly).
The thing for others, is to accept other rugzakjes too. I hear what you say, and at the same time I know that there will be more people who will support and embrace you.

The days will be getting longer. I hope that more hours of light will strengthen you.

      Warm regards, Gus

    • A great piece written for your husband. Nicely executed!

    • Well now, this is quite loaded with some serious wording! Not easy I am sure, to carry the rhymes along as you did.
And, it’s a rewarding read, that I enjoyed very much.

      • Thank you very much Styxian. I’ve been trying to have more control over that meter and syllable count the pieces flow, so it’s a little more work but I’m liking it so far.

    • Beautifully penned, Wally. Excellent write my friend. Nicely done. Appreciate you.

      • Thanks Damian.
I find myself more immersed in trying to stay with that meter and syllable count with my latest work but I’m enjoying it.

    • Professionally done, Wally. Each followed the same syllable count and I like the alternating rhyme scheme. And for the meaning, I think the chosen words are just right to convey the yearnings of the heart. 🙂

      • Thank you Tim. I’ve been working more on that lately. I usually go off script or rhythm, or make the lines longer with internal rhyme added with wordplay. I have several goals for 2026 and hope to up my game.

    The Big Bad She-Wolf

    • Wolves are back! Big bad and naughty wolves. The Wolves you are writing about seem to be more seductive and haunting than threatening.
I’m curious to read your take on this topic.

    • I am slogging at the library right now reading through the first draft making revisions. About to transcribe it from my notebook to the computer so I can send it to you finally. Ughhhhhh writing is such a process, Elke! Haha 😂

    Evil Gnome

Intimacy left the bedroom, drifted quietly down the street. Wanting only human closeness, with no intent to cheat.   It wandered past the neighbours, took a shortcut through the park. Noticed couples leaning inwards, who had not lost their spark.   It walked backed twenty paces, sat beside a nameless...
