    Through The Shadowed Door

The night lay veiled, no stars above,A silent, frozen tomb.A deadly stillness bound my love,And filled the world with gloom.Where were my guides, my constant light? The stars had fled the sky.A gaping void, an endless night,Where all my hopes...

    • Well done! An apt poem for this liminal season. 🌼

      • Thank you, Average Joe! I’m glad it felt in tune with the October spirit. There’s something about this liminal season that makes the shadows and the dance feel just right. 🌙🍂

    • It takes a rare skill set to verse a formal poem. Colour me impressed.

    • Hi Rob,
Thank you! After trying my hand at this, I’ve realized that writing formal poetry is a lot harder than it looks, haha. I’m really glad my attempt still read well — that means a great deal to me. I’ve always admired the discipline and musicality of formal verse, so your words truly resonate. It’s very much appreciated.

    • This is one magnificent piece Romaj. Beautiful, atmospheric, transcending, mesmerizing. You’re a very talented poetess.

    • Outstanding piece. The rhyme scheme is right on, and the meter flows really well. Lastly, the story told plays out like a lilting song. You are surely gifted at writing.
keep doing what you do, you’re quite good at it.

      • Thank you, Styxian! I’m so glad the rhyme, meter, and story felt like a song to you. This was my first attempt at writing in this style, and it’s definitely harder than it looks, haha. Your kind words mean a lot and really motivate me to keep learning and improving.

    • It’s always a treasure reading your poems. The rhyming is fantastic and the story too.
I loved the stanza about the quiet song!
You made this look easy. Great piece chica!

    • Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed it– and especially that the stanza about the quiet song stood out to you. I had so many different versions of that one, so I’m thrilled it still came through the way I hoped. It definitely wasn’t as easy as it looks, haha, but your kind words make it feel worth the effort!

    • Brilliantly penned, Roma. Excellent flow my friend with your precise trademark imagery on display. I dig this! Appreciate you.

      Damian

    • Thank you so much, Damian! I really appreciate your kind words. I’m glad the imagery and flow resonated with you–it means a lot coming from you. Always grateful for your support!

    • I read this twice to bask in the wonder and transcendence of your poem. The imagery tied together into a dream of exquisitely woven artfully crafted tapestry of high poetic art. I could feel this deep in the marrow of my being. From start to finish this is an impressionist beauty as eloquent as it is profound. The ending felt like a release of your unbounded spirit. A celestial dance of unfettered freedom. Superbly composed.

      John

    • Thank you so much, John. Your words are truly humbling. I’m thrilled the imagery and rhythm resonated so deeply. It means a great deal that you could feel the “tapestry” of the poem in that way. Your description of the ending as a celestial dance beautifully captures what I hoped to convey. I really appreciate your generous and insightful reading

    Existential Fuel

It's not about the destination;it’s about the engine knock--the low hum beneath the chest, pistons pulsing, alive, tires tracing grooveson roads you can’t quite see.I used to think the fuel was purpose--a bright answerwaiting at the end of some highway, vanishing as...

    • Brilliantly penned, Roma. Into the book it belongs! Excellent imagery, felt like I was riding shotgun. Any automotive enthusiast would love this joyride. Appreciate you.

      Damian

      • Thanks so much, Damian! I’m glad you enjoyed the joyride. I think all existential crises should come with great mileage and a good soundtrack. I appreciate you saying it belongs in the book. I was hoping that the imagery felt visceral, so knowing you felt like you were “riding shotgun” means the world. If an automotive enthusiast approves of the engine knock, I know I did my job! Appreciate you reading.

    • I love the determination in this. It has a come what may feel to it.
Sometimes not knowing the answers to everything feels scary but it also opens up more possibilities.
Sometimes not knowing brings wonderful surprises you never saw coming. They crash into you and change your life.
That’s all part of discovering yourself and finding out what you’re made of.
      I enjoyed this roadtrip!

      • Thank you Adelphina! I love your take on the “come what may” determination. You captured the bright side of the empty space perfectly: not knowing is indeed scary, but it’s the very thing that makes room for those “wonderful surprises that crash into you.” That element of being open to things we never saw coming — that’s the true reward of keeping the existential engine running. I’m so glad you enjoyed the road trip!

    • This is very clever. It tells of the journey quite well, taking the reader along steadily. Purposed.
      Solid write, thoroughly.

      • Styxian, Thank you so much! I’m thrilled to hear the poem carried you along steadily. That feeling of taking the reader on the journey is exactly what I aim for. I appreciate the kind words!

    • hello lovely poetess I get it this is really good the love machine keeps humming while we get ranover or we keep running from this speed demon out to kill us love is tragedy but without it would be emptiness I am up for the fight with this demon great write ❤️

      • Hello Crimsin, Hello! That’s a beautiful, fiery way to read the poem. You perfectly captured that underlying tension: the engine of life (‘”the love machine”) keeps running despite the forces that want to “run us over” or the “speed demon” trying to stall us. The emptiness without the fight isn’t worth the peace. I love that you’re “up for the fight”– that’s the true existential fuel! Thank you for the passionate read.

    • Impeccable metaphors and quite the philosophical road trip. It’s good to have a journey to end towards; but it’s the journey, which matters, in the end.

      • Rob, Thank you. This poem was just random thoughts, while I was on a long drive too. I appreciate you calling it a “philosophical road trip.”

You perfectly captured that delicate balance: the destination gives the journey shape, but as you said, the journey itself is the only thing that truly matters. I hope you enjoyed the ride.

    Amethyst Sea

I floated in stillness--cradled by an amethyst sea, golden light bloomingacross sapphire waves of violet flame. The sky stretched wide in bronze and rose, scarlet clouds suspended mid-air,their edges sharp against deep indigo. The weight of the world lifted,as heaven painted the skiesin...

    • Amethyst is one of my favorite colors.
This is a very soothing read.
Like reading lavender, if that makes sense 🙂
      Beautifully done:)

      • Thank you! I’ve been having this recurring dream of an amethyst sea, and reflecting on it gives me such inner peace. Now I even own many amethyst gemstones. Adelphina, your words about it being soothing really resonate. I love swimming just as the sun is setting.

It’s such an ethereal experience. The water feels as warm as the sunset, and the sky’s colors are breathtaking. Perhaps that’s why I dream of this sea, and I’m happy I was able to capture this experience in Amethyst Sea. I’m so glad it came across that way!

    • Beautifully penned, Roma. A very colorful write my friend with stellar imagery. Appreciate you.

      Damian

    • Thank you so much, Damian! I really appreciate you noticing the imagery and color– those beach sunsets here on the island, where I live are my biggest inspiration. Appreciate you too, friend!
