      Born To Be Wild

Once I played small, belittled myself  In order to make others feel great  Nodded, while my heart screamed NO  Agreement at any price Worked without charging money My self confidence pretty low  Doing favors and putting others first A matter of course for me Always there, always...

      • Yes. The good things about you should never be the things that you are used or abused for. I love how you still are all of the things that you were before, you’re just not allowing anyone else to have control over it.

      • You should speak up. Never suppress what you want to say.

      • I love everything about this poem. It’s plane to me that your passion is unequaled and unequivocal.
I dream, lovingly, of dancing with you under the moon, long hair flowing and both of us in purple wispy silks.

        • Thank you so much for your awesome comment, Jim! In our fantasy we can do anything we want. And the best thing is that our fantasy inspires our reality and our reality also inspires our fantasy. Love and light to you, my friend!

          • My pleasure, (so to speak), Elke.
I noticed that wrote. “plane rather than plain”. oops! 🙂
I love your take on the topic; fantasy reality.
My thoughts are starting to have a very fulfilling time as I write here, so ~ Thanks!

      • Powerfully penned, Elke. Excellent write my friend. Appreciate you.

      • I can relate. I was also a people pleaser before I stood up for myself.

        • Thank you for sharing your personal experience in your kind comment, Tim! Great that you stand up for yourself and speak your truth! Peace!

      • I was never a people pleaser and probably never will be. The only ones I have respect and love for are the few that give the same to me in return. The rest can go fuck themselves! I love this bold write. You stand tall, showing your strength and determination. A marvelous and powerful piece. xox

        • Thank you very much for reading and commenting, dear Keith!
I have always felt that you are an honest man, true to yourself and others.. That’s a great attitude.
          Respect! Xoxo

      • A friend once told me “Not everyone deserves your soft.” I am who I am, but they have to prove they deserve the best of me now. I’ll always move with compassion, but if we don’t take care of ourselves…who will? I burnt my filters too. Totally feeling this one!

        • Thank you, dear Willow, for sharing your personal experiences. We can only give to others what we have given to ourselves first. Self-care and self-compassion are the best preconditions to be kind and helpful towards others.

      The Replacement

Is there any greater sorrow than to lose someone you love? Nine year-old Jenny didn't think so. Sitting motionless on the backyard swing, she struggled with her emotions and wept. My heart is broken into many small pieces! How shall...

      • What a charming little story. I didn’t know how it was going to end up going about halfway through but alls well that ends well.

      • A heart-warming story, Sam. Your characters always have personality that is lovable in some way…even a cat. 🙂

      • Ah, the sweet, gentle world of an innocent young girl (I’ve one posted simply, “Girl”).

        Sam,
You never fail to touch your readers’ hearts, minds, ‘n souls in bringing to life your characters’ personalities (even a cat’s), and in how they each fit so perfectly into your stories’ always interesting plots … and, your grammar is exemplary.

This is a most lovely piece, and I love the surprise ending.
I hope you like it here, Sam … the site needs your “special” touch! ⁓ Richard🖌

      • Thank you, Richard.

        • Ah, yes, the story of the mean old man with the heart of stone resurrected by the hot love of a 1912 Ford. Those cute little machines just whirred and purred right into everyone’s hearts, didn’t they? Another horror story well told, Samuel.

      • Thank you. Yeah, scary stuff for Halloween.

A Lonely Figure in a Laundromat

Among a low-pitched, hypnotizing hum of stainless steel washers and dryers, next to a dingy neon light, he sits in his usual pea-green plastic chair and waits. His grey hair and beard rub along the collar of his wrinkled...

      • This is so sad, and I can feel how much he misses her. Even the everyday mundane things stray to thoughts of her. Very good story,

      • Well, now, this is just a butt-kicker. You set the scene brilliantly, then proceed to serve up dose after dose of sadness. I feel this poor guy’s pain, and want to buy him a beer or something. I didn’t know you had this kind of writing in you. Hopefully, there’s more.

      • Deep resonance of emotions here. Compelling literature that captures a night at the laundromat that is anything but ordinary. Original captivating and powerfully rendered. Your attention to detail of the scene and the character emotional response to the event unfolding before him is as touchingly developed as it is strong. Truly gifted prose writing.

        John
