It’s a lot to carry. I’ve only been in the support role for people struggling, my daughter for one. But I see how heavy it can get to keep up the mask & maintain a facade of functionality. You’re right, it changes people. Im glad you’re no longer that person, my friend

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Yes, in my case it brought out bad choices, poor judgment, and being a real pain in the ass for sure. I’ve been married going on 19 years. I asked my wife a few months back, “How the hell did you put up with me for the 16 years I was an alcoholic?” Her answer was simple, “Because she loves me.” Then she proceeded to describe the hell I put her through, in detail” I deserved every word of it too. Appreciate you.

I think sometimes we get shackled by our passed. I was thinking about that while going through some of my old DUP post. It’s nice to see the creativity, but they were wrote from pain.
Great ink

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Nick. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Fortunately, or unfortunately as the case may be, as a writer I’ve left a roadmap of my life in my writes. Sure, you’ve done that as well, you said so above in so many words. Pain is part of that for me, but it has so many more faces than that. It’s like a ride I couldn’t get off of, the cycle repeats over and over, a vicious circle. Sorry, for ranting. Your comment made me reflect a little, it happens. Appreciate you.

The poems written from our pain, are probably my favorite. Not because they are from pain, but because something so raw, and so beautiful can come of it. This was a beautiful ode to your former self, and Iβm proud of you, Damian. Itβs not an easy feat, but you beat the odds and became a better version of yourself.
I wish you all the best for the future my friend.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, P.G. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I know what you mean, believe me I do. I like a former songwriting partner in my life used to always talk about if you’re miserable you write better. Don’t know that I believe that theory anymore, I believe it’s if the subject matter strikes a nerve. Then a writer will get raw, even down and dirty sometimes. Thank you, so much for the kind words about me being a better person, and yes even in a better place, I’m truly blessed, indeed. Appreciate you.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Angel. So glad you connected with the write my friend. That’s an interesting story, sometimes anything can throw the switch, to obtain that moment of clarity. I still have like 4 beers in the fridge, that have set there for over two years. So I can relate, I keep meaning to throw them out, I just forget they are there sometimes. At first it was motivation to see them, and ignore the temptation. But I’m past that now. I’m glad you got to know your grandfather, the better version of himself. I’m a better version now as well. Thanks so much for sharing. Appreciate you.

I stopped on the line “it’s pride that needs to conquer the beast.” And read it again. Now I got questions…is pride the beast? Conquering self? Can pride conquer? See what I mean? Ya stirred up the hornets in my mind & now they’re buzzing! Very thought provoking piece, my friend

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write. I think in this case I’m meaning it more as, it’s pride that makes us do something foolish. It makes us fight even if we can’t win, that’s pride fucking with us. It’s also usually from a selfish place, instead of a moral thing. Hope that helps, good question though. Appreciate you.

1st two Crue records YES! Huge, influential band. I remember some friends really becoming upset when Corabi joined the ranks. Some never went back to listening to them. Many bands change their singer, as you mentioned. I heard the record. It wasn’t bad. Not amazing but I was never a huge fan of the bands material. Awesome Spotlight Damian.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. First two records were brilliant. They had that raw energy that they never got back with Vince at the forefront. Corabi, I’m a huge fan of that record. But I’m also a fan of Corabi in general, I’ve liked his other projects outside the Crue. Appreciate you.

Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you enjoyed the story my friend. I was a fan of the first two records with Vince. But that was before they went full glam. That started on “Theatre Of Pain. The first two had makeup as well, but it was more in the vain of, W.A.S.P. Which is interesting enough because Nikki had played in a band with Blackie Lawless, the frontman of W.A.S.P. Some say Nikki just totally stole the idea from him. But those first two records were raw and powerful. Mick Mars, was the true bright spot on guitar. Appreciate you.

I don’t know much about these guys. But from what you’ve just shared here, it sounds like they should have closed the Motley Crue door & embarked on a new journey under another name. Fresh start. Perhaps the record label wouldn’t let them? Banking on a name to carry the weight of change seems risky to my uneducated mind. Another intriguing story, my friend

I’m hugely impressed with your understanding of poetic element.
So, you are Richard the Rascal. Let me put that down. This is another amazing piece with emphasis on personification and symbolism. There’s obviously a metaphorical significance to the changing season, specifically fall to winter. It’s interesting to note that while you give leaves many characteristics of humans in this piece, they lack the unique capacity for understanding… at least, that’s the perspective of the speaker. Your final stanza is a fantastic summation. This is top shelf material, Richard.

Graciously spake, Dear Poetess🥂
Your coaxing words are sweet as honeysuckle to a hopeful bardβs susceptible ear β¦ most especially, from one so poetically accomplished and sophisticated as yourself.
A few devices I tend to favor are color, texture, analogy, simile, and nature β¦ Iβm so pleased youβve recognized their presence in this rather poignant little piece.Thank you ever-so warmly, Lady DK, for your always welcomed accolades! β Richard the Rascal🖌

Hi, M’Good Friend! ✌🏼
How great it is, Tim, to be greeted here with one of your appreciatively expressed and inspiringly encouraging reviews, that always seems to grasp my poetry’s core essence.
Yes, like You, I tend to enjoy a good dose of metaphoric imagery in my pieces.Thank you, Syr, for enjoying this rather sad Free Verse piece! β Rascal🖌
PS: On your recommendation, I had to check the site out β¦ do you know how one edits their poetry?

Wow! You’re a Wordsworth Rascal! Damn, you know how to melt a heart, don’t you? I’m a rhyme and meter girl with much of my poetry, so I appreciate the elegance of this piece despite its lack of contemporary appeal. The message is anti-materialistic and wholly wholesome with a massive slice of humility. You’re slipping in that age factor, that timeless long-lasting relationship that so many country songs emphasize.
It’s worth a roll in the hay any day, Rascal. Put a daisy in my hair.

My, oh-MY, Lady-Poet 🌻
What a lucky coincidence that I just happened to come upon a little daisy this morning while strolling along, imagining someone whose lovely hair it might grace, of what it might lead to, of whom….er, I seem to have (somehow) wandered-off into fantasyland. 😌
Damn, yourself β¦ you’ve quite a knack for inspiring your own rising stimulationsβ*
Yes, M’Lady, how unfortunate such a huge, powerful, and beautiful expanse of poetry has become ignored and limited to talking/prose (not really poetic prose) in the erroneous name of contemporary advancement β¦ what a shame to watch thw art and depths of poetic skill dwindle to a trickle. Ahhh, I could soapbox your lovely ears off β¦ LOL!How sweetl to be so completely grasped β¦ and, mmm, what a lavish bouquet of thought you’ve inspired β¦ right side or left? β Rascal🖌
