    Watch Your Mouth

    we weren’t allowed to curse
so she never did it herself
    always setting the good example
    whenever we repeated words heard…
that we were forbidden to utter…
    she’d softly remonstrate…
    “now now now…watch your mouth”
    but I learned very early
    she had an exception
    if pushed to full annoyance
    (a rare event – she…Read More

    • In our house it was the threat of having our mouths washed with soap if we cursed. And it only took one mouth washing to guarantee obedience to this rule. Very cool poem for day 7 of poetry month Willow -Curt

      • I never had my mouth washed with soap but my sister did once. I was always too afraid of getting in trouble to put a toe across any lines. Thank you, Curt

    • My cousin told me to say a word in front of my mother, and I didn’t know what it meant and I got slapped. Never said that again. haha at least not to her.

      • My mother swore all the time – redheaded temper. But she yelled at us if we did. Grandma taught by quiet example. I’m a veritable sailor mouth now, but then? Nope! 😂

    Protest! They say they care.
    Protest! They wouldn’t dare.
    Protest! They cut your hair.
    Protest! They strip you bare.
    Protest! They foul your air.
    Protest! Your bruises hurt.
    Protest! Your face is dirt.
    Protest! Your eyes are tired.
    Protest! Your jaw is wired.
    Protest! Your eyes are black.
    Protest! No going back!

    • Protest sometimes isn’t enough, especially not when faced with such horrors. -Curt

      • Sadly, I agree – I live in England, we’re all affected by Trump, Iran, Israel, all the cruel rhetoric on all sides, but I so hope America overthrows your President soon. Only thru a public uprising, it seems, can normality be restored in The States. HJx

    • Girl this is something. Protest to be heard but who is even listening? they keep doing the damage. This is good

      • It’s borne out of my frustration at The World, Fia. The Devil, threatening to wipe out a civilization using foul-mouthed rhetoric only makes life worse for all of us, bluffing or not. The Devils on the other side are just as bad, if not worse -putting to death 30,000 innocent protestors. Pray we all move to Peace, soon, girl. Take Good Care of…Read More

    • This is good informative poem. My son has dyslexia and though it takes him a little longer to read things, it does not change who he is. I love when I can relate to a piece

    • “they distort sex, drugs, and even God” That is 100%. Good piece

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Fia. So glad you connected with the write my friend. That they do, and sometimes it’s impossible to unsee it. Appreciate you, Cuz.

    • I sometimes wonder if you realize in the writing how prophetic and on point your observations are. We had more than an inkling at the time of inking, but who could have predicted how awful it would get? And they’re not done yet. This is a beast of a powerhouse, my friend

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Willow. So glad you connected with the write my friend. I’ve been accused a couple of times in this life of being prophetic in my observations. J.J. Burton was the first to tell me that, even Joey G. has said it a time or two. I just go where my muse leads me, and jot down the thoughts that come to me. I think this one is more fuel for the bonfire my friend. Appreciate you.

    • Interesting in how such a write could be penned in the 1960s, til now. It’s a never ending cycle of promises and BS, with military interventions along the way. We the people just try to eek out a decent life, as unscathed as possible.
      Intuitive write, sir. Prophetic.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Mark. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It could have been penned in the 60’s and every era in-between I agree. It’s a rabbit hole that never ends, a collection of puzzle pieces I try to put together, I’ve been chasing for answers my whole life. Sadly it often leads to more questions, because the actual puzzle is ginormous with lots of moving parts. It’s all part of my journey it would seem. My wife and kids are my happiness it only took a little over 20 years to figure that one out. lol. Better late than never I guess. Appreciate you.

    • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Keith. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It would make great lyrics, you never know with me, it could end up going down that way. Appreciate you, brother.

    • Some things just have to be said out loud and wrapped in poetry .. it’s too hard to write them in stone .. Nice one Damian

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Neville. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Very true, very true. Appreciate you, sir.

    • Hey amigo. Everything is so unstable and messed up. I’m just trying to get through my day feeling like a decent person. It’s all too much. And I feel it in this write. Well done

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Adel. So glad you connected with the write my friend. Ain’t that the truth. It sometimes feels like a horrible nightmare I can’t wake up from. Appreciate you.

    • This reminds me of the book 1984. They’re changing history through numerous means and we’re all suffering under it. Good one, Damian.

      • Thanks so much for reading and your kind words, Tim. So glad you connected with the write my friend. It does feel that way indeed. Thank you for your continued support. Appreciate you.

    Queen Jackie

I wrote this poem with no AI interference at all, nope none of that. The only thing AI did was help me get my poem onto this picture. That’s it. Thank you
