  • I love the idea of this group, and I will run it for a while if that is alright with all of you. Below is the picture of Bumpei Usui, Portrait of Yasuo Kuniyoshi in His Studio, 1930, oil on canvas, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of Regis Corporation, 1984.92.
I want you all to take your time, study the picture, and write what is moving you…Read More

    • Willow, this had me tearing up. This struck many chords.

      • My daughter and I were up much of the night following the murder, crying and holding each other. She was only a couple years older than my daughter. And the evil took her from her rightful place in life. Silenced her words. Stole a mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife. That can’t be returned. But we can keep her name alive in minds.

    • Brilliant and sad.

It’s a dangerous time for American citizens, especially those that dare to be different or decent.

    • This is an appropriate piece for the times, but sadly it’s going to get so much worse. So many more of the defiant ones will lose there lives for freedom. But when you don’t know history it’s bound to repeat itself, maybe Revelations saw all of this.

      • I agree. It’s going to get much worse. They worst kinds of people have been empowered. ICE is officially the death squad for those at the top.

    • Powerfully penned, Willow. A heartfelt tribute to a fallen sister of the pen, but most of all a mother and a human being taken from her child and loved ones. It’s fucking disgusting behavior by a bunch of twisted fucks who aren’t qualified for the job and looking to spill innocent blood. I truly don’t recognize this world anymore. Excellent write my friend. Appreciate you.

      • I wish I didn’t recognize it. These are the same people who were once shamed and termed as criminal for their actions. Now they work for the ultimate evils. Corruption has the reign now. But we’ll take it back. In all likelihood, it will take a war or two to get there. Thank you, my friend. We’re all feeling the pain of such a senseless act. We live in a lawless land now

    • The best poem on her I’ve heard. This is very moving Willow. I can only hope to write like this someday.

    • Such a brilliant and touching piece Willow. As many said here, this is going to get worse until someone or many revolt and fight the opposition. November elections are so very important! Until then, be alert and one step ahead of this ruthless, tyrannical dictator!

      • I agree. This is not a time to turn a blind eye or put your head in the sand. The things happening…insane. Minnesota is my home grounds, so it hit hard when they waged war on my people first. They’re not done. Only the beginning

    • This hurts in the quiet way that lasts longer than outrage. You’re not trying to explain grief—you’re standing inside it and letting it speak for itself. The repetition of “we will shout your name” feels like a vow, not a slogan, and the turn from shouting to whispering at the end is where this poem really guts me. That’s the truth of mourning: public rage fades, but private grief keeps breathing. This is restrained, honest, and necessary. Keep writing like this.

      • I have no words to express my gratitude on this comment. Thank you so much for feeling where this piece came from

    • A light removed, undeserved. Regardless of her motivations, none of it warranted a death sentence.

A wonderful, albeit bittersweet, write, Willow.

    • This is a very scary time. I think we need to be sad, angry, but also hopeful. And also most importantly we need to take action. This is a fight for humanity. We will lose friends and we will be called names and some of us will die for our freedom. But every Democrat needs to understand this doesn’t change without voices and voting.

      Great poem, friend.

      • “Some of us will die for our freedom…” my daughter and I have been having these kinds of conversations. I have family members who just want to keep their heads down and not make a fuss to avoid notice. If we all do that, who will be left to defend and fight for what should be an inherent human right? I can’t even tell you how many pieces I’ve written in the past year about it. Thank you, my friend

    • Wasn’t it weird to hear she was a poet? It struck a chord in me and the loss was felt double. The world needs poets.

    • Powerfully penned, Fia. All this madness is getting innocent people killed, it’s insane the amount of blood being spilled by this death cult regime. A fellow poet and most importantly a human being was taken from her child and loved ones. I’m fucking disgusted by all this senseless violence. Nice tribute my friend. Appreciate you, cuz.

      Damian

    • Nicely done, Fia, Thank you. It is hard to see anyone die so senselessly and ruthlessly, especially by someone who does it while cameras are rolling, knowing his act will be seen around the world. Perhaps that is why he took such a risk; but I think he knew that Trump and Noem would have his back. They all should rot in hell. Soon.

      • Thank you, FD. After you written your tribute I was moved and wanted to write one as well. How many times we have to see on camera what is going on before people wake up? It should not matter that she is a poet, but it does hit hard for the community.

    • I always think of how these acts are only what we see. I wonder and am scared of what they do when no one’s looking.
Monsters, and honestly I don’t think much for their supporters either.

    • Great tribute, these are sad times Lady indeed. Wat you’re seeing is straight out of Hitler’s and the Nazi’s play book. This country played with this man and now is facing it’s possible end.

    • I woke up this morning and needed to speak of the murder. I had no idea there were already several pieces posted. Essentially we have a narcissistic sadist with his hire hitmen out there, acting like people are expendable. I watched the video with my daughter and we were both struck by how casually he shot her and then walked away like it was nothing. Because he knows his keepers will cover his ass. Empowering men whose natural tendency is cruelty was intentional, make no mistake. Their day of reckoning will come. Just not soon enough.

      • I have two daughters myself, and I think it could have been them. It could have been my niece. It could be anyone. My heart cries out to her son who has no mother or father now.

    • Were in some real trying times right now. This poem is well written and real to each word I read here. Nice job Fia..xox

    • Chère F.,
Lovely poem for a horrible happening.

      Scene of the rhyme
Is always better than scene of the crime

      Keep the courage, please…
      Warm regards, Gus

    • At the minimum, it is manslaughter. She was attempting to flee, not harm. He could have simply taken one step back. Even if he isn’t charged with a crime, he should be removed from that job. He has an irrational temperament.
