Rewriting Memory
I knew it was going to be a really long day
But Cupid had already started working his shift
And though there was a team goal to achieve that day
It was a real surprise to be receiving this gift
And yet again, in my confusion I went along with it
When I was young, I’d try it if I had the chance
The day felt nice not knowing there was more to come
A serendipitous, unexpected romance
I remember that Spring night under a pale moon
The anticipation had been building all day long
We were young and innocent and full of dreams
The kind you can fill a book with poetry and song
But a day later, the forwardness was off putting
The unspoken words from the night before were crossed
Like mixed signals without a clear sense of purpose
A misunderstanding when the message got lost
Rewriting this would’ve taken us in a different path
We went our separate ways with not much to discuss
Later I reflected on that night with nostalgia
And how I said the words that didn’t break us

Powerfully penned, Wally. A very heartfelt write my friend. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate you.
