I miss you.

Seeing your picture
reminds me—
your eyes, like my mother’s,
your nose, my father’s,
and those tiny lips
like grandmother’s quiet smile.

I look at you
and drift back ten years,
wondering if it was only me
who waited all this time
for a love that felt so far away.

I miss kissing your cheek—
a single tear slips from my eye,
falling softly with your name in it.

God gave us this distance,
yet also gave a way—
a tiny camera,
a brilliant mind’s invention—
so I can still see you.
For that, I am grateful.

I am happy…
after all these years,
at least I can see you.
What if I never had that moment?
What if I never found you?
Thankful, even to chance,
to the world that led me here.

I love you so deeply
I’ve carved your portrait
inside my heart.
I wish I could paint you—
as you will be
when my eyes finally hold you
for the last time
before I leave this world.

I am not sentimental,
just quietly emotional—
and a little shy
to even stand close to you.

Yet what is this life,
if I had never seen you at all?
Perhaps I am a little lucky…
because I have seen you,
again and again,
through time, through distance.
