Another poem for my upcoming Africa poetry collection

“I am not Africa because I was born in Africa
but because Africa was born in me” ~ Nelson Mandela

I am not African by birth alone,
but by this echo of her beating heart.
With her shores, my spirit has since grown,
her winds and whispers form my every part.

A lion’s roar resounds inside my chest,
each acacia sways within my veins.
From Kilimanjaro’s base up to its crest,
her crimson sunsets sweep across the plains.

These ancient rivers carve their tales in me,
each drop a memory engraved in sand.
In every drumbeat, every thunder’s roll,
I hear her call, a voice I understand.

Though I was born across a distant sea,
Africa’s pulse forever born in me.

    1. When I think of Africa, I think ‘majestic’ and historic. It must be an inspiring place to visit. Your piece makes me think you have been there – breathed the air, seen the animals, and experienced the awesome weight of that continent.

    2. Dear S,

You paint a stunning vista of Africa with this piece. That it had such a resounding impression on you I can only imagine the beauty and grandeur of being there. Breathtaking write. H🌷
