You wouldn’t think loneliness
could breathe between our warm bodies,
not when we lie naked together
close enough to feel each others breath.
But it can.
And sometimes, it does.
I lie beside you,
listening for your soft drift into sleep,
hoping,almost praying,
that your hand will wander,
and find its way to my waiting skin.
It never does.
Though it used to once.
So I reach instead,
Lay my palm upon your quiet body,
And the silence folds around us
Not love, but something near enough.
I’m not lonely anymore.
Still hungry,
But not lonely,

This is seriously lovely and not only took my breath away but replaced some of the cold of a very cold day with some much needed warmth .. Neville
