With rope in hand
And a smile on his face
Preparing for the journey
To leave this place
From a tree branch
A knot carefully tied
With hope and anticipation
Of his impending suicide
He placed the noose
Around his own neck
Nothing seemed to phase him
This surreal reality check
Desperately hiding
All his dark secrets
And a chance to erase
Memories he regrets

The wind blowing softly
The rustling of the leaves
No prayers were answered
While on bended knees
His body swaying violently
Like hope’s determination
As the branch creaks
A bittersweet salvation
But then something happened
He wasn’t suspecting
A moment of contrition
As remorseful thoughts crept in
Desperately grabbing the rope
To undo his denial
A new struggle underway
Now fighting for survival

Gasping for air
Attempting to breathe
Trying to escape
The rope’s fibrous teeth
An epiphany of hope
Overcame his mind
Death wasn’t the answer
He was hoping to find
A blank canvas of white
He now wanted to paint
But he couldn’t escape
The rope’s fatal restraint
Dried tears on his face
Nothing went as planned
His body hanging lifeless
With rope in hand

      • Thank you..and thats a great question..I think some if not most might do..maybe there’s that brief moment of reflection or introspection where you realize suicide wasnt the solution but its not reversible..its a very dynamic and complicated matter for sure..and more discussion is def needed. Its a sad and tragic part of life that many ppl(family and friends)have dealt with..a haunting experience for loved ones for sure..thank you for commenting..I appreciate it

    1. Perhaps in his contrition he realized a schmaltzy and powerful truth — “you live once then you’re dead forever”. I cannot recall where I read it but that line has helped me stay around for 8 years. The simple things… you know? Thank you for sharing this incredible write!
