Smalltown, USA

I grew up in Smalltown, USA. Pillars to the right and cathedrals to left. My mom homeschooled us kids, brother and sister, the “3 Rs”. Dad worked five days a week on, “Cannery Row”, the best of the freestone peaches. Now clinging to my memories in monochrome that stick to my mind and heart. Mama fried pork chops in lard, and we drank ice tea from Mason jars, but not before Grandpa said grace over the green beans. “Where have all the good times gone?”…beneath the Georgia clay. Now covered over, with the scent of hot asphalt.
