She put the hoodoo on me
no ropes, just a whisper
like a shadow do minuet
with a snifter of cognac
and honey on her tongue
without a putter she birdied
the secrets of hoodoo…
to use a dull pen.
Then left me holding
an empty glass
a pocket full of moonlight,
wondering which part was spell
and which part
was simply her
a damn fool notion
moonlight could be bottled
if she were willing
to uncork herself.
