When Art Mirrors Life

Short-term Christmas choir:
“Come along… sing tenor,” they said.
“You can be a tuning fork for the others!”
(I’d been called many things before, but that was new to me!)
Bemused, I sang along, enjoying the harmony of inner lines.

“Tonight we’re short on altos…”
Oh!
“Join in please, all ye sopranos
and people pretending to be tenors!”
OK then!
The note range was just right – such joy!

“This one’s congregational –
all sing the tune now please!”
For me, that’s the soprano line;
three different parts now sung!

“I dare you try the descant part!”
joked male tenor next to me.
I hit some notes – most, but not quite all,
then quietly hummed along (badly)
while basses took their turn.

These tenor parts are AMAZING!
The alto lines are AWESOME!
OOH, we’re singing the tune now!
Let’s try that fun bass part when we get home…!

I realised that this attitude;
desire to learn; full engagement at all times
feeds my sense of urgency, and thus speed –
and now art mirrored life!

It goes without saying that
my family is my world
and I’d do anything for them.
In fact, I’d happily do anything for anybody.
Just tell me!!

My day job is the best thing EVER.
I must be the best I can be. Always.
I love my other job more than anything else;
It’s right where I should be.

Volunteering’s winding down,
but felt so important and special.
Fundraising is just the best,
especially when others join the fun.

Gymnastics is the love of my life;
I watch it every day.
Reading is the love of my life;
books, leaflets, signs… I consume them all!
Italian is the love of my life,
but so are French, Swedish, Gaelic and Maori,
which I fear I can’t do justice.
Music is the love of my life;
can I take woodwind and folk rock
intravenously?

Writing is my thing; I need to do it more.
I’m currently studying, and MUST do well;
when I’m done, I’ll do some more.
Can’t draw or paint to save my life,
but make my cards, and now glass works.
I’m not good, but I love it.
Composition is my true calling;
and what I’ll do when I grow up.
Words games, word play,
signs and place names have lifelong appeal.
Also, I belong in the sea;
Part mermaid, perhaps?

So much to do, so little time!
