Remnants of Madness

HomePoetryRemnants of Madness

Exploring the silence echoing from shoes
with each footstep, echoes that linger
like fingers tracing headstones

Taking the ribbon from my hair
Shaking it loose, letting it fall

carrying weight of those who procrastinate
as the dark cradles one’s ought’s
of memories unfed

among empty chairs, unsettling my chili
thickening the broth, death rising
from depth echoing from shoes

and those of intimacy sharing spoons
with the bones that resonate
on stale crackers

stumbling through remnants of madness
and the haunting beauty of the dead
speaking chowder

Help me make it through the night
Lord, it’s sad to be alone
